Table settings is disposible tacky

Danielle, on June 12, 2019 at 6:52 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18
Hey guys! I need some help.

I really love the look of glassware, silverware, place settings with chargers and plates. Our guest count will be no more than 75. My caterer only does one use plates, cups, and silverware. I Guess Im asking is it worth the expenses to buy it myself or should I just use disposable? Is using disposable tacky these days?

What I'm working with: So we are planning to be partially catered and we are doing a buffet style menue. IE a caterer will deliver and set up but we will be responsible for clean up. I will have a co-worker friend (paid of course) to clean up as the reception goes on. I though at first this was tacky BUT I work in food service and it kind of what we do. For the caterer to stay it was going to be an additional $850. Id rather pay a co worker that could use the money to do it instead. Also the caterer we have choose would do disposeable plates/ utensils. But as you can see this adds the added issue of what to do with the dishes after the reception?
Whats yalls opinion? Am I over thinking? I'm not trying to spend an arm and leg on a one time event.

To me, it would come down to whether or not the disposables are like paper plates, or like Chinet plastic plates. If your wedding isn't super formal, I think disposable plastic would be ok, but definitely not paper products.

I think disposable will be fine for your wedding. Since your caterer doesn't provide the "real" stuff, I definitely wouldn't want to have to worry about the logistics of getting all those dishes cleaned afterwards! And at this point, those seem like your only two options, so I'd just stick with disposable.

Depends how formal your wedding is and if renting real stuff is in the budget. If it’s a more casual wedding disposable is fine.

If they're the nicer disposals then I think it's fine for an informal wedding. I really don't think anyone will worry or think about the plates!

They sell really heavy real like disposable cutlery/plates, I think it will be fine and also if its not in your budget to rent the real stuff then don’t put yourself out at all. That will be the last thing on anyone’s mind!

Depends on how cheap they look. I've seen some plastic ware that looks realistic.

My caterer only supplied disposable as well, but worked with a rental company for glass if I wanted it. She coordinated everything, I just had to go pick out what I wanted.
you could see if your caterer could do something like that.
If your wedding is not very formal, disposable is fine

I'm using disposable dishes and silverware for my wedding, it can help keep costs down, and also make it so that I don't have to worry about doing dishes after the wedding if I bought some to just donate to the church after the wedding...

Note to add: Tacky all depends on how you see things to be completely honest, I wouldn't find it to be tacky to go to a small wedding and have to use one use dishes...

You can always rent them. My tent/table rental place are also bringing plates/glasses/silverware along. You just have to make sure they’re clean and they pick them up. I’m having about 50 guests and it will cost about $250-$300 to rent them. If you have someone to clean them at the end of the night, you could save much more money than having your caterer deal with it. You could also ask if she’ll give you a discount if you don’t use the disposables she provides.

Bamboo plates are disposable, fairly cheap, and look really nice. You could prob get those off of Amazon for a good price. Your caterer might provide them as an upgrade.

Renting them isn't as expensive as you'd think but i also understand that if it's not within your budget it wouldn't be as cost effective. another thing to consider is you could always give out glasses as a party favor that they could also use. that's what my bridesmaid's friend did at her wedding. but i think disposables would be ok if it's like what other PP's said -- heavy duty. you don't want cheapy paper thin ones at your wedding. there are fancier looking and colored or patterned disposable ware that is quite nice actually

Check out vintage plastic plates on Amazon. I've seen them in person and they look great, but they are disposable. I'm probably doing this for my wedding.

I don't think anything is wrong with using the disposable.

Hi there! Not necessarily. There is really nice disposable plates, cups, bowls and silverware now-a-days. It’s made out of really thick sturdy plastic. They’re even washable. Check Amazon.

I am also using disposable. But, our wedding is rustic so nothing fancy. If your wedding is fancy I would just use disposable but nicer ones.

I recently went to a wedding with disposable plates, flatware and cups. They were a white plastic with a rose gold rim. They looked really nice.

Okay so i had this same dilemma. I wanted glass wear and silverware because it looks so much better. I looked into renting it and it’s like 1.50-2 a plate so it adds up. Plus delivery. Plus tax. Plus breaking deposit.

So so i went to dollar tree and found beautiful black plates. I was able to buy it for $1. And will have them after. My wedding is about 80 people so it saved me. And as for silver ware they even sell a 4 pack there or Walmart for $1. It honestly looks so much better than plastic.
