Table place cards

Kelly, on May 8, 2022 at 12:33 PM Posted in Planning 5 11
I’m a bit confused about place cards for the table. My venue would like it to not only have the name and table number, but the meal choice for that person that they’ve chosen. I have not seen that before and seems like a lot on the small card. More importantly, when am I supposed to order these as they are the same design as my invite which I’m ordering now? However, I’m not going to order 70 of these cards with every guest name in case 40 out of the 70 invited show up. So, I guess I just don’t understand how you’re supposed to do it … are you supposed to leave a blank line to fill in the name and the table number? Until I know who’s coming I’m not going to actually know what table they’re sitting at because although I have a seating chart it will be rearranged depending on who shows and who doesn’t. But I certainly can’t wait until people RSVP and then order these or I wouldn’t get them in time. What are others doing as far as when you’re ordering them and what you’re putting on them?

I ordered my escort cards off Amazon and wrote the names myself. For meal choices, most weddings we've attended had stickers on the cards. They've either been animals i.e. a chicken sticker for chicken or cow sticker for steak or they've been colored dots that all stand for a different entree.

Thank you Sarah. Writing in names seems most sensible versus having them pre printed.

Etsy has several vendors that sell colored card stock tent cards. Some offer calligraphy services as well but they may not get shipped in time if you have the vendor write all the information for you. The good thing about the escort cards is that they are easier to just grab another one if you have to move someone last minute or make a typo. What you do with the different colors of cards stock is pick a color palette (using red, pink, cream as examples) and each menu choice is a different color. If someone wants prime rib, you pick the red tent card and put their name on the outside, table assignment on the inside. For chicken, use the pink cards and cream for the vegetarians. Then you give the caterer your color key so they know which color is for each choice. Then you have them set up on a table near the entrance so guests can find their names, grab the card and go. It saves you tons of money and stress over a poster/chart which has to be redone from scratch each time someone is moved or a typo made, and is easier on guests as well because they are easy to read, don’t create traffic jams and guests don’t forget where they are going when they mingle on the way.

I also ordered escort cards from Amazon, but the Avery ones that you can run through a printer. They have several pretty designs available and it allows you to "move" people at the last minute (adjust the seating lol). As far as meal choices, you just color code either the cards or a sticky jewel or have a sticker, etc. so that the waitstaff knows each guest's choice.

If could always get card with the names of everyone you've invited and then get stickers with the meal choices and can put them on as the RSVPs come in.

Oh yes the idea of a poster chart being redone again and again is awful. Especially with my bad handwriting!

    Thank you.

Do you have anyone in your local social group (best friend, sister, mom, whoever) who has pretty handwriting? If so, have a group of them come over to your home and make a party out of it. Provide drinks and snacks and do an assembly line where you have a list and they write out everything. This team effort party is also great for putting invitations together and addressing them.

We bought stock cards and printed out our escort cards with name and table numbers but our vendor asked for the number of chicken, fish or lasagna that was at each table so that they can serve the meals. Color coordination of meals is a great idea.

It seems that way for sure. Especially with everyone at one table picking different things.
