Table Numbers vs. Table Names

Crystal, on June 21, 2022 at 1:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13
So I just had a random idea, instead of using table numbers to identify each table maybe we should use images following a theme.

We are having a tropical Caribbean wedding so I figured either items from my home (Belize) OR maybe things we like as a couple like ex.) Disneyland, the Gym (where we met), his fraternity, etc.
Anyone seen it done this?

My sister had a destination wedding & the tables were assigned by the different places they’d traveled to. It also included a centerpiece of them at the destination place. It was really cute and creative. I think the tropical caribbean theme is cute if it all flows together.

Oooooo that’s sooooooo pretty!!!! I loveeeeeee it! I don’t think we’ve visited enough places for all our tables and I don’t know if we have photos from each trip, but I can incorporate some photos from our trips to Belize. That’s a nice way to combine the two ideas.

We did this! We did places that we have been to (either just me, just my husband, or both of us). So for example we had the Dallas Table or the New York Table. People really liked it! We sent my mother photos of us from each of those places, she photoshopped the city name on each, and printed 5x7s on glossy photo paper through Walgreens. We then put them in 5x7 gold frames I found cheap on Amazon. It looked great! I don’t have my photos yet because our wedding was just on May 21st, but I can come back and put them here when I do 😊

We did Disney couples, because we're huge Disneyphiles. I handwrote the names on a chalkboard and it was tucked in next to our flowers.

That would be good! Each table can have a different theme Belize reference. Maybe different beach names if there’s enough.

My FH and I are doing this, but we are still also doing Table numbers. So like Table 1 - Hawaii for example. If you are having a plated dinner, then your catering team will want numbers so they can easily find the tables. And same goes for guests. It is much easier to find a numbered table but I didn't want to give up the little theme.

I think this is a great idea! We use table numbers but I also named the table supporting to the social networks each guest was in. I totally love your idea!

Ohhhhhhhh .... something else I'll need to write down and ask our venue about. We are using sea/tropical creatures that have been made up in to 1 5x7 sticker, and then coordinating 1/2" sticker for the escort cards. Got them custom made on Etsy (of course LOL)

My MOH did this at her wedding - all the tables were named after places that meant something to them (the street they lived on, where they had their first date etc).

We're doing kind of a combo - I'm assigning numbers so that guests can easily find their tables but I'm also planning on naming them based on who we have sitting there. We're keeping it kinda whimsical (I'm contemplating having the table with all our parents sitting there called "The Money" just for giggles). My fiancé and I are generally very sarcastic and goofy, so this works for us.

I've wanted to do this FOREVER!!! My only hesitation is whether we should arrange the tables in alphabetical order (which I'd rather not do, because I'd ideally like to have each name be something that whoever sits at that table can relate to) or do numbers as well to make it easier. I'd love to keep it to names only so everyone can look around and see the different table names (and maybe have an explanation about the name or something?), but I just know there's going to be a crowd that will get there late and it'll cause issues, so we'll probably also have numbers.
