Table dismissal

Erin , on May 11, 2017 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I really like the idea of dismissing tables for dinner by songs. I am wondering if anyone else has done this, how you did it, what kind of songs you used, and if you are happy you did it?

Dismissing them for what? To leave the reception?

My cousin did it and they picked their top 10-15 favorite songs.

    For dinner??

1-I highly suggest assigning tables, if you really don't want to do a full seating chart.

2- even if you don't do a seating chart, everyone will come in and find a seat, then your coordinator will release them by table to go get dinner (I'm assuming your doing a buffet by the sounds of it) so no need for songs- also how would they what song meant they could go?

Not assigning tables or seats is going to delay and slow down how quickly people are released for the buffet line, and make it take a long time to get through dinner.

Are you referring to letting them leave the reception? Or calling tables up to a buffet for food?

Either way, not having a seating chart makes for a lot of chaos. You will have people scrambling for tables and often times couples or groups of family or friends can get split up. At the very least assign tables to eliminate some confusion.

Do you mean like for them to go up to the buffet? If so, that has nothing to do with a seating chart.

I feel like dismissing people by song is counterintuitive and could end up being more time consuming than it needs to be. I would just do it the regular way.

I'm using a seating chart. My tables have numbers, but also song names for fun. There's an underlying Prince theme, so the songs are all Prince titles.

If you don't have assigned tables, what's keeping me at that specific table to wait to be released for the buffet?? Smiley smile

Songs can be a fun way to invite tables to the buffet, but they don't have anything to do with whether or not you have a seating chart!! Seating charts assure that everyone has a seat, with their date, and are sitting with friends or people they'd get along with! Without a seating chart you can have adult chaos - people saving too many seats, or ending up with half-tables, your family in the way back, grandma next to the speakers, etc.

If you need to dismiss tables for dinner, you have more than enough guests to require a seating chart.

Keep it simple. Assign tables and have the coordinator or DJ dismiss them, immediate family first. Most of our venues serve the BP at their tables.

What about doing the table dismissal and the first B&G greeting guests at the same time? Like me and FH go around the tables and say hello, then send them over to the buffet?

    We're having a lunch reception.

Serve them a plated meal and then you don't need to worry about it.

My venue has expeditors that tell tables when to head up to the buffet. Catering staff serve on the buffet it isn't self serve so it tends to move pretty quickly.
