Switching Roles/proposal Boxes

Rachel, on July 12, 2020 at 5:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My fiance has finally decided who he wants to ask to be his groomsmen. He was debating asking my brother, but ultimately decided not to. I am very close to my brother so I would like to ask him to be my man of honor. My sister is currently supposed to be my maid of honor, but she has made numerous comments to me and my mom that she is only doing it because she feels like she has to because she's my sister. She has also said if I decide later on that I want someone else to be maid of honor then that would be cool with her. I know it is normally frowned upon to replace your maid of honor, but given then things she has said I don't see it being an issue.

If I do ask him, I want to give him a proposal box like I did with my bridesmaids, but I'm not sure what to include in it. My bridesmaids boxes included a card, personalized tumbler, bath bomb, robe, compact mirror, and necklace. Most of the boxes for men I have seen include mini bottles of alcohol, flasks, or shot glasses, but he doesn't drink alcohol. Any ideas of what to include in his proposal box?

I would sit down and ask her what she really wants and would she be ok. She may say that but would it bother her in the long run? They can be maid and man of honor. I would say give something he likes? I did a starbucks theme for mine. If he's into working out maybe a personalized water bottle or something?

You could add a tie/bow tie, candy, an engraved cup or koozie & a card.

I got my brother a gym bag and some alcohol stuff since he likes to drink. I would say get him something you’d get for his birthday.

I also would just shop for him like it was his birthday. Think about what he likes and get him something he will use. You can still get him a tumbler, just find a gender neutral or masculine one. Or you could do a travel mug. And maybe a card with a gift card in it, his favorite candy or snack, if he likes sports something with his favorite team’s logo.

Talk to your sister first. If she's not okay with stepping down, you can always keep her as MOH and add him as Man of Honor and have them share the role.

In his box, I would include a card and then anything that suits him. His doesn't have to go with the ones you got for the women. Candy, a snack, a tie clip or money clip, cufflinks, etc, could all work. Like others have said, shop like it's his birthday.
