Sweetheart table location?

Kelly, on May 10, 2016 at 10:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

For those who did/are doing a Sweetheart table for you and FH, where in the overall scheme of the room are you locating it?

Our venue gave us the attached planning layout. Their default recommendation had us way in the back, right behind Table 3. But I thought that was weird because then we are kinda removed from everyone and farthest from the dance floor. So I moved us/the SH Table to the current location. But then I'm unsure of how to position the table - don't want to have our backs to a lot of the guests but also don't want to be facing at an angle. Any thoughts on this one? It's driving me nuts. Thanks so much!

Did you mean to attach a picture? Without that, I'm having a hard time picturing it. We are doing a Sweetheart table, and it will pretty much be front and center facing the dance floor. Our backs would be up against the window (which faces the water), and then the tables go around the dance floor on either side of us

ETA - See your picture now. I definitely don't think you should be all the way in the back. I would think you would want to be closest to the dance floor - especially if you have any one making toasts, they'll likely be up at the front w/ your DJ/Band.

@angela - thanks! so on this would you be positioning yourself right next to the DJ? Or more near the front left corner of the dance floro?

We're doing one and I think the plan is going to be to put us between two rooms.

Our venue has two main rooms that basically make an L with the majority of tables going in one room and then a few more and the dance floor in the other. We'll be between them.

I thought I had a picture because it sounds crowded when I say it and it's really not at all.

It looks a little crowded where you've got the sweetheart table. Could it be spaced out more? That also might just be the diagram though. I definitely agree with not wanting t way back in the corner!

What about having it in between and slightly behind tables 13 and 5 (looking at your diagram: right side, center)? That way you're close to the dance floor and your back is to the wall (not your guests). You might have to shift tables slightly but it could work.

Personally, if it were me, I would probably put us where you have it edited above. I know it might seem weird to have your back to some people, but I don't see another great alternative. Somewhere along the edge of the dancefloor. You're also not going to be sitting at your table for very long. think about how you want those few pictures to look when the photog is snapping them during speeches, and stuff. I'd say where you have it would work, or maybe near Table 11 if 11 could be pushed around a little.

Are you able to move your dance floor at all? Or move one of the tables down by the DJ to another area of the room and put your sweetheart table there?

We are doing a sweetheart table as well but our backs will be up against the windows and we will look out towards the rest of our guests. You should be able to see everything that's going on while everyone is still able to see you.

I would think the sweeatheart table would look best by the dj somewhere so everyone could see you and facing the crowd.

Ladies - thanks, yes, the guest (round) tables are all totally movable. Only thing that can't move is the general DJ location and dance floor.

We had a sweetheart table and our dance floor had a similar placement in the hall as the layout you're showing. We were placed at the end of the hall (kind of where you have table 17, if I'm reading it correctly). When speeches were made each person was able to get the mic and stood in front of the DJ and we were right there just a few feet away.

Hmmm I find that weird they had you behind table 3! Did you ask what their reasoning was for that?

I like either where you added the sweetheart table in, or if you could move table 11 back a little bit and put the sweetheart table right there in the center next to the dance floor. You'll want easy access to the dance floor for all of the special dances and so that people can see you when they're toasting you Smiley smile

Are you having the same number of tables as the diagram shows? if you're having less I'd put the sweetheart in the place of table #15 or #17

It seems like they have you placed where you can be seen by the most people? You're really going to be eating there and that's about it, since you'll be up and mingling most of the night. It does look crammed, though I assume the diagram isn't perfectly to scale and may be more spread out once you're working with the actual tables.

My venue doesn't have tables to the right and left of the dance floor. The dance floor is a little wider. The DJ is over by the top right corner of the dance floor, and the sweetheart table is in the middle of the top edge, facing into the room. All of the guest tables are on the other side (below the dance floor in the diagram)

How many guest tables are you having?

Our sweetheart table is at the back of the dancefloor, looking out over the dancefloor and the rest of the tables.

I would put it where table 11 is. There is some open space off to the right side you could shift tables 11, 12, and 3 into.

So your set up looks a lot like what I plan to do with one difference: I have the sweetheart table where the DJ is and the DJ off to the side. In my experience it is better to have the sweetheart table facing everybody and having the dance floor ensures that your backs aren't facing anybody. Also, the DJ doesn't need to be right next to the dance floor.

I saw something similar at a wedding recently and they were seated where the DJ is in your picture while the DJ was off to side.
