Sweetheart table focal point

Carmela, on November 30, 2020 at 10:14 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
Just wondering if anyone has done anything dramatic for a sweetheart table? Such as a lot of flowers/draped backdrop/flower arch. Does anyone think this is worth it? And does anyone know how much something of this sort would cost? I uploaded a picture for inspiration. If it’s not worth it, are there any other ideas for making your sweetheart table a focal point? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!Sweetheart table focal point 1

We’re probably opting out of adding separate flowers for the sweetheart table because it’s going to be pricey. The florists did suggest using the bridesmaids bouquets and then adding some accessories, like the Mr. and Mrs., a table cloth/ skirt, candles and such.

If you do go with something like the image above, I’m such you can use those tall flower arrangements for the ceremony too.

We are going to use my bouquet as decor and we got a Mr. and Mrs. sign custom made for us. We might add a few things and our florist is doing a piece for behind the table on the fireplace. Your inspo photo will probably be quite pricey because it’s a lot of flowers. For me, it’s not totally worth it to spend a ton on our sweetheart table.

Our florist repurposed our chuppah as an arch to use for our sweetheart table (it was decked out in fresh flowers). The floral team stayed on site so they could do this during cocktail hour. We also placed my bouquet in a pretty vase on the table. My advice would be: if you're already going to have a wedding arch with flowers for the ceremony, see if can be repurposed for your sweetheart table.

That's really pretty but it looks very expensive. We did a sweetheart table for our minimony where we used fake rose petals and candles for the décor. We haven't decided what we will use for our big wedding yet.

I got quoted $250 for a large floral centerpiece for our sweetheart table. A backdrop would have been $500+ depending on what we wanted so we let it go. We will just be putting a lot of candles on and along the floor in front of the table.

Something like the photo you posted would probably cost thousands! That is a lot of flowers and greenery, not to mention the support structures!

I like the idea of re-using the arch...hadn't thought of that before

While we're taking photos, my coordinator is going to move the flowers we got for the arch (2 small, 1 big) to the sweetheart able (: The big one will go on the bottom. The small one on top. The other small one will go on to the cake table. Figured if we could re-use items, it would help a lot!

I also got the typical Mr. & Mrs. Sign. And then we got some cheap fake candles on sale that we'll put at the bottom and on the table.

Here's a pic of the flowers:

We had a very elaborate sweetheart table. We used the arbor for our ceremony as well as had hanging candles, flowers, etc.

    Here are some pictures.

I thought it was worth it Smiley smile

We didn't do much, because the sweetheart table is usually positioned to be the focus of the room, anyway.

A friend made us a sign.

Then my bouquet sat on the table, as well.

I can’t find any photos that our photographer took of our sweetheart table, but here’s a photo one of our wedding guests took (she’s also a photographer). My florist took some of the floral installations from our ceremony and had it moved to the sweetheart table afterwards.

I agree with what other PPs said about either repurposing flowers/arch used during the ceremony, or finding ways to draw attention that aren't heavy on additional flowers. Otherwise decor for your sweetheart table could add up quite quickly!

For myself, I am trying to be conscious of my flower budget so we may have some sort of greenery garland, with candles or lanterns and probably a table skirt. If we can relocate our arch, that's fantastic, but ours will be fairly minimalist with just one or two small sprays of greenery with whatever white flower is in season at the time. I'm personally not crazy about signs, but maybe if I find one I really like. I have made it known that the only time I plan to spend at the sweetheart table will be while we're eating and during speeches - the rest of the time I will be making rounds with guests and spending on the dance floor. Smiley laugh

Well, I think you can get really creative with the sweetheart table! Our wedding is on December 17th, for example, and our backdrop is going to be live Christmas trees. There will be 5 total, one large one directly behind us and two smaller trees on either side. Our church puts on a tree lot fundraiser every year and by late mid December they donate what is left over, so that is where we're getting our trees from! I got the tree stands at Dirt Cheap for a PENNY each. We'll decorate them with lights and crystal ornaments.

Our table itself will have vintage brass candle holders, a rustic wooden log with a floral arrangement sitting on top of it, a large wooden log/stump in front of the table/off to one side (that I literally dug out of a campground lol) with a smaller floral arrangement and lantern sitting on it. We're doing velvet chairs. Everything has been free or found on Facebook Marketplace! (:

I hope this helps with creating an elaborate/focal table but not breaking the bank.

    Hi Hannah,

I am thinking of doing this for my wedding as well. Did your florist charge you extra to be able to repurpose/move it into another space? If so, can I ask how much I should expect it should cost me? Thanks for your help.

Wow. I thought that was rather lavish, but it made sense to repurpose the floral decor.

We were not charged extra. This was covered by our florist's labor fee, which was 20% of the cost of the flowers. For us, the overall labor fee was $875, but it will depend on how your florist handles the labor

I know this thread is old but hopefully the advice is still helpful! A free way to re-purpose flowers is to use your and your bridesmaids' bouquets. They won't need them after the ceremony anyway. I put mine on the cake and gift tables, which were right next to our sweetheart table. My family also made a couple DIY pieces (origami mobiles) to "frame" the table, which you can see hanging off the lamps in the back. I've seen people use plenty of other decorations besides flowers -- the most common is a neon sign with the couple's names, but you can use anything that goes with your wedding theme.
