Surprising the Groom Ideas?

Wifeytobe17, on February 6, 2017 at 3:40 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

Hi all, I want to do something to surprise the groom during the wedding day. Any suggestions? His dad passed away so I'm getting him cufflinks with his Dad's pic in them so he can walk him down the aisle. But I wanted to do something else, since the focus has been on me, I really want to do something special. Thoughts?

Update: FH is aware we are doing personal tributes and memorials for his dad and my mom so the cufflinks will not be an issue.

Hey OP! This is a super sweet idea but if you are meaning about surprising him with something in memory of his dad, you might want to talk to him first. Your good intentions could easily turn south and upset him if he's ambushed! If you meant outside of that, I'm personally giving FH a box of letters I've written to him over the years. It might not seem like much, but it's something I know he will love Smiley smile

My FH and I are writing each other notes to read the morning of the wedding. They won't be a surprise to us, but I think it's something sweet to do if you aren't seeing each other in the morning.

Thanks, he knows we are planning a memorial for his dad and my mom, so it won't be an issue. I like the letter ideas thank you.

I completely agree with Heaven. A sad reminder of his dead dad might be the last thing your groom wants on what is supposed to be a happy day. It's a sweet idea if he is into it, but it could also backfire terribly. Personally, I would go with something upbeat that has meaning to the two of you.

I love the cufflinks idea, but now its not a surprise to him anymore!

I'm going to surprise mine with a grooms cake of his favorite NFL team.

I heard of brides surprising the groom with a cool get-away rental car, a fun adventure activity on honeymoon, or sexy lingerie for the wedding night.

But don't underestimate his biggest surprise, YOU!

I'm considering booking a caricaturist. So a memento of the day, but cheaper and different than a photo booth.

I'm definitely booking something fun for the minimoon. Like dinner reservations for Belle's Castle at Disney World.

I bought my FH an all wooden watch from Tree Hut and had it inscribed. I bought it on Black Friday because they were sold out around Fathers Day last year, which was their other really big sale and I didn't want to chance it. My dad ruined the surprise at Christmas though, he's not always too bright, so now I need a different surprise!

Surprising FH with an A's grooms cake and having personalized bobbleheads made of us for a topper. Also doing an A's garter. Even though he'll be tossing it.

My fiancé LOVES bagpipes. I'm surprising him with a bagpiper playing at our rehearsal dinner.

I went to a wedding recently where the moms of the bride and groom had passed so the bride surprised the groom with a slide show photos of the moms instead of a mother/son and daughter/dad dance (since she is not on the best terms with her dad). It was short and sweet, there were some tears but it didn't dampen the mood.

I grew up with the bride's mom so I started telling stories of our childhood together, we raised our glasses to them, then to all the moms, then to the couple, then ourselves...it was great!
