Surprise Work Bridal Shower

KW, on May 5, 2016 at 2:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

My co-workers threw me a surprise bridal shower. Everyone brought in food for Cinco de Mayo.... it turned out it wasn't for Cinco de Mayo, but rather for my bridal shower. Everyone chipped in on a Visa giftcard. I've only been with the company for 2 years and the only other shower they've thrown was a baby shower. She wrote one thank you card and set it out in the break room for everyone to see. Is this an acceptable way to thank everyone, or should I fill out individual cards for everyone who signed the card? Its around 20-30 people.

If all 30 people contributed, than they should be thanked individually.

I am not sure who all contributed. The card was signed by everyone in the office.

We surprised one of my former employees with a going away party / wedding shower a couple weeks before their wedding (his last week of work). We didn't sign individual names on the gift, just wrote that it was from the rest of the staff. He and his wife sent the shop a handwritten thank you note, and I hung it in the breakroom. I thought this was sufficient, especially since we didn't put names on our gift to him.

That's what everyone did at my last company. One card out for everyone to see is fine, they all signed one card for you...

I feel like in this situation where everyone in the office signed the card, a group thank you note is sufficient. I am trying to put myself in the situation of being one who contributed and I would never expect my own thank you card for an office party.

I think a group thank you is perfectly acceptable as well. My work tends to throw showers too and that's how we get thanked. To individually thank everyone with a card would be too difficult. God forbid you forgot someone!

I think one card is perfect for the office. I would maybe get an edible arrangement for the office. Or possibly a couple large pizzas..

Agreeing that a group thank you is fine. We've done this at my office for folks all the time, and I never expect an indivdiual thank you back. Often times, not everyone contributes monetarily up front so it's hard to thank indviduals in that case.
