Surprise Groomsmen Dance?

Ryan, on April 28, 2020 at 8:13 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

I'm not really much of a dancer. Are there any alternatives to a Surprise Dance out there?

I feel like the alternative is not doing a dance?

Well I mean something fun for us to do instead of dancing. That's what I am wondering...

You hide (or present) someone with a single bottle of smirnoff ice. When they find it (Or receive it) they have to get down on one knee and chug it. You could hide a bottle for the bridal party under their napkins or taped to the bottom of the table & coordinate with the DJ an announcement for them to check under the table for something. It's extremely popular in my area lol. I think the last 4 weddings we attended, the groom got the bride or the bridal party got the groomsmen.

I agree with Caytlyn. I know that these "surprises dances" happen, but I have never see one and they actually are not common. I would just skip it and not worry about an alternative.

But why? I am asking sincerely. What is the point or significance of Smirnoff ice, drinking on one knee, hiding things under napkins? If I were a guest at that wedding (let alone a bridesmaid), I would be SO confused.

Sorry, edited to add for the OP: I definitely wouldn't worry about doing anything to replace a groomsman dance. No one will miss it and everyone can just get on with the reception celebrations.

I've never heard of *either* of these things.

If you don't want it, skip it! It's your wedding!

Never heard of this. If you aren't into dancing, skip it entirely. Or have a dj for those who wish to dance. You aren't required to dance at any time, even with background music. Most people are happy for a chance to chat and catch up with others and don't feel like they're missing out.

A couple years ago, a video of a groom & his groomsmen being iced at his wedding went completely viral on social media... I’m surprised so many people haven’t seen or heard of it. Doesn’t need to have significance, it’s just a fun game to play with friends. No harm no foul!
