Agreed and so are the whitening trays that cost a fortune from my dentist. I do a couple of things as an alternative. I use a charcoal based toothpaste called Moon that you can purchase at your local CVS. I mix it with baking soda and a bit of peroxide as I brush. The other method that people will think is nuts is using a bit of ivory soap on my toothbrush again mixed with a it of peroxide and baking soda. It worked for my grandmother who died at 90 with all her teeth in tact that were pearly white.

I used coconut oil. It may not have as extreme results as the chemical stuff, but it was gentle, cheap, and effective. From what I’ve heard it helps strengthen the enamel too.

Use Sensodyne toothpaste for two week prior to whitening. Try whitening for shorter periods of time. Do not use anything abrasive on your teeth such as charcoal or baking soda. (I’m a dental professional)

Just saw this. Just scoop a small spoonful and swoosh it around. They say 20 min, but that’s a long time. I started with just a min or 2 and I worked up to about 10.

I’m all over this! I couldn’t stand there for twenty minutes but I wonder how would it work if I put them in my whitening trays! Thanks for this I’m definitely doing this.

I don’t really have a before and after picture. I did it more to strengthen the enamel to prevent a cavity. I did notice as i used it it made my teeth very white.
I used to do it every couple of days, but now I do it just every couple of weeks.

There is no evidence that coconut oil strengthens enamel or whitens teeth. If you are looking to strengthen enamel look for toothpastes that contain fluoride or nana hydroxyapatite. If you are looking to whitening teeth you will need peroxide such as that found in crest white strips or at home whitening kits you buy from a dentist.

Try an alcohol free whitening mouthwash consistently. It should be less harsh on your teeth. Some whitening toothpastes are abrasive, but I think sensodyne has a whitening toothpaste that is a little less harsh.

Charcoal and baking soda are highly abrasive and can lead to even more wear and sensitivity in the future.

I use lumineux toothpaste. It works and my teeth aren't more sensitive than usual. The downside is that it tastes like horseradish.
