Sunscreen stations?

Finally mrs.jkr, on April 15, 2015 at 5:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

So I just realized that our wedding reception is outside, in late June.... At midday. We're having pretty casual (but still fancy) and I don't want to leave my guests burnt. I thought of all this when I saw this bug spray station on Pinterest, do y'all think it'd be a good idea to do similarly with sunscreen (I mean just like the picture, we have everything we'd need for that)... 1 or two out by the lawn games with a sign and maybe 1 by the seating chart table/easel? Most my family aren't bothered by the sun and just tan, but fh's family is pretty white and would crisp like toast... Also, there's a lot of trees (spotty shade) thought the entire place, so is it even something I should bother with?

I think its a great idea, to many people leave home without it!

Doesn't hurt to put out a few bottles; it will leave the guests feeling taken care of. A friend recently supplied bug spray for her outdoor evening wedding which was held in a wooded area... those cans were empty in 30 minutes!

Great idea! I am setting out sunscreen, bug spray, and hand fans. Only the ceremony and cocktail hour are outside and there will be some shade. It's not usually too hot, sunny, or buggy then, but I want to ensure people are comfortable in as many cases as I can predict.

Make sure you get a nicer one. I use a hawaiann tropical one that doesn't smell like sunscreen. I hate the smell of cheap sunscreen.

Get the spray kind if you can! Ladies can give each other a face-spritz without worrying about rubbing their makeup off.

I just realized I had never added the picture. Y'all think I should include bug spray to? Bugs usually aren't out until late afternoon/evening though, so I should be good with my reception ending by 430?

As a guest who has been sunburnt at her own uncles wedding, definitely do it. I normally tan, but it was so hot out the day of his wedding, I was a lobster the next day. And it was 8 hrs plus outside!

A few of the people in my family have gotten skin cancer just from going for walks and things like that without lathering up, so this is definitely something that I would appreciate as a guest! Who would think to put sunscreen on before a wedding? I think it's very thoughtful.

@wendy, I didn't want to try and make it too fancy, but our guestbook table is small and also has our card box. FAuntIL has about 6 of these kind of hooks from FCIL wedding last year. I was thinking of just hanging a bucket, basket, or *cringe* a mason jar would do. (No hate in mason jar weddings, I just didn't want one. Our caterer already only provides mason jar glasses--she jars all her own stuff, so she's been offering that before the trend-- and I want to avoid it looking too "mason jar rustic since that's not my thing.)

I would definitely provide some at the sign in table like @Wendy C said and maybe include extra in your bathroom baskets/hospitality bags if you're doing those.

I don't know your area, but there are some kinds of bugs here that are out all day, like gnats. They don't bite but they are so annoying. I'm putting out the kind of bug spray that doesn't smell like harsh chemicals.
