Sunday wedding start time

Roxanne, on April 14, 2022 at 7:42 AM Posted in Planning 14 6
For those of you who have had or have bee. To a Sunday wedding, what was the start /end time?

We are doing a Sunday in the late summer in Texas. We plan do to 6-11 to give us the opportunity to enjoy at least a little time outside in the evening and leverage the golden sun for photos during cocktail hour (sun will set around 8).
But… we didn’t initially consider that our venue is a bit of a drive for most, people will have work in morning, and kids will have school in the morning 🙈

What experiences can you all share about Sunday weddings that started in the evening?

I've been to tons of Sunday weddings because I'm Jewish and it's common to have Sunday weddings that don't interfere with Shabbat. They usually have the same timeline as Saturday weddings (i.e. 6 pm to midnight). For a local Sunday wedding I might leave by 11 pm if I have to go to work the next day, and for an out of town wedding I'd take Monday off. No difference in timeline though. If your venue is a long drive and most of your guests are local, then I'd assume that a few people would want to leave early, especially if Sunday evening weddings aren't common in your social circle, but I wouldn't worry about it too much

I'm getting married on a Sunday. Our ceremony is at 3:00 PM, dinner served around 5, reception will end at 8:30. People can take the Monday off work if needed. Don't worry about this too much. Friday, Sunday, and even weekday weddings are becoming more common because they're cheaper and people had to choose weird dates because of COVID postponements.

We’ve attended a few over the years, individually and together. Typically in our circles, Sunday weddings are reserved for the very short and subdued parties with cake and coffee only in mid afternoon between 1-4 pm. No dancing but everyone chats and heads out. The fact that it is cake only doesn’t deter people from traveling so the couples nearly always have full attendance according to their parents.

Every social circle is different so do what you are comfortable with.

We're doing a Sunday wedding in October. We will have the first look and pictures before the ceremony. Our ceremony and reception will go straight from 4:30 pm - ~10:30 pm.

I've already talked to quite a few guests and they were good with a Sunday wedding at any time. They were all very happy that they are invited and that we were taking them into consideration.

Side Note: Our venue made it very difficult to do a brunch theme, which was our initial plan.
