Sunday brunch

Lauren, on December 20, 2020 at 8:51 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

Me and my FH are having an early Sunday afternoon wedding. And we are trying to decide if we should do a brunch for our reception. What are good brunch foods that people will actually eat, but people can still have the option of sweet and also savory/salty (?) too? We talked about doing coffee and having water and tea available as well. We will still have our cake, but should we add some cupcakes or cookies too? There will maybe be 75-100 guests as well (as of right now, unsure of covid!)

I think afternoon and I think more lunch time dinner foods. Not a bad idea but maybe still to the more lunch side of brunch such as small sandwiches and some garden salads?

This sounds like a great idea. I definitely recommend having fruit, waffles, avocado toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, etc.

Oh yeah, I agree with the previous poster about having salads as an option.

I did not think of small sandwiches or garden salads! Thank you. We are thinking around 1:00- 2:00 for ceremony so most people I think will have eaten lunch and we will end the reception before dinner! Thank you!!

Hmmmm if it is in a between meal time you could probably do heavy appetizers such as stuffed mushrooms, cheese & meats, fruits and veggies. If you do want brunch depending on how up scale you could do mini chicken biscuit sandwiches or chicken and waffles. Hmmm Maybe a waffle station or build a waffle, fruits, veggies, cheese, crackers, sandwiches? Never a bad time for mimosas or just beer and wine.

Crepes are delicious and can be savory or sweet, omelettes, chicken and waffles, salads, and sandwiches are always good. I agree with above poster about mimosas. As far as desserts other than cake, that's entirely up to you.

Pick cake or cupcakes but both is too much because they are the same thing.

Browse brunch menus from caterers in your area. Your options are endless: chicken and waffles, omelets, home fries/hash browns, chicken fried steak and waffles, biscuits and gravy, crepes/blintzes with fruit fillings, oatmeal. Make sure to have something non dairy for any vegans/vegetarians

I think it would be odd to serve brunch food at the time you are considering. I would serve lunch foods rather than brunch.

I agree that an afternoon wedding makes me think more lunch foods than brunch. However, I am a huge fan of brunch (and brunch foods), so I definitely wouldn’t complain! LOL Since it is in the afternoon, maybe you could focus more on savory/filling dishes for the “breakfast” aspect; such as chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, meat & vegetable egg frittatas, breakfast potatoes, etc. For the “lunch” aspect, you could do something simple and cheap, like finger sandwiches and pasta. Mixed fresh fruit is always nice too. If you are serving wedding cake, cupcakes and cookies may be redundant. If you want to serve another sweet dish, a cobbler might be a good choice. They good warm or cold, they great for breakfast or lunch/dinner, and it would be a great Fall dessert.

Most restaurants serve Sunday brunch between 11am to 3pm so I don't see an issue with the time. Serve some breakfast items and some lunch and people can choose what they want.

My daughter's brunch reception included egg croissant sandwiches, bacon/ham/sausage, vegetable frittata, potatoes, fruit salad, pastries, coffee/tea bar (lattes, mochas, etc.) and a mimosa bar. Instead of a cake she had a variety of flavored cinnamon rolls.

I love someone's idea of crepe here! because crepes can be both savory and sweet

We had brunch food at 4pm. We had Quiche Lorraine, hot club sandwiches, fruit salad, garden salad, then we also had an apple tart, a strawberry cake, and a chocolate cake. Hot coffee, tea, soda. It was a bigger hit than I thought it was going to be because the savory heavy type food was super filling and it felt more like lunch than brunch.
