Just Said Yes June 2020

Summer Covid Honeymoon

Teresa, on May 17, 2020 at 9:44 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 5
Welp 😢 Just found out I’m not going to be able to go to Maui for our honeymoon in June with the extended travel quarantine. I’m pretty devastated but trying to pivot to something domestic. Anyone else have to change their destinations? Are y’all trying to find another location or just postponing. We are giant travelusters and planned on Hawaii being our one big trip this year.

Stay-at-home orders were issued in our state (and basically the world fell apart) a week before we were supposed to leave for our month-long international honeymoon. We chose to wait until next year to take the trip just because we wanted to make sure everything was safe and normal before traveling overseas with multiple destinations.

We did go on a 3 day mini-moon to Palm Springs the day after our wedding. We had planned it without any idea that we wouldn’t have been able to take our honeymoon a month later. If I had known, I probably would have added an extra day and changed it to Santa Barbara instead.

Our April Big Island trip got canceled due to lockdown. We plan to cancel it but so far we are still debating with Hawaiian Airline for a refund, because we booked 2 trips. One to Big Island in April, just for vacation. One to Oahu for our wedding and Honeymoon in July. The July is still on, unless Hawaii is still having 14 days quarantine, which doesn’t make sense to fly only to spend in hotel room and back to airport 😑

However, at this situation, there is no good or bad suggestion, but if I had the choice, I would book things kind of last minute, because no one knows how and when this situation is up or down. Hawaii is reopening in July, but when they see the numbers of COVID patients growing up then they will sure lockdown the island again and THAT WILL COST AN ARM AND A LEG. Many tourist had to stay in Hawaii for weeks because their flight back got canceled due to lockdown. As you know hotel and airbnb are expensive in Hawaii, they have no choice than to break their savings. I read many stories online, and I am honestly a bit worried for that too.
If I were you, I would wait until the situation is much better than “just reopened”, wait and see how this virus is doing.

We had to cancel our June honeymoon to Puerto Rico. We are planning on staying in the US and going out west instead (Grand Canyon and nearby places). We made all our reservations so that they can be cancelled last minute! We can’t really postpone (besides til next summer) because FH is a teacher.

I think you're going to be kind of limited, even here on the continent, because of the restrictions. It's awful, but I think I'd postpone until next year.

DH and I are kind of going off of the "Disney model" - if Disney isn't open, we aren't going anywhere! We figure, if a giant company whose entire purpose is to gleefully, sneakily, and with our full consent empty our pockets won't open (and we enjoy Disney), due to safety concerns, then it's probably best to stay put.

That said, you can take a look at what's restricted and what's not, and see if there are plans you can make that are fully refundable...
