Summer 2021 International Honeymoon

Morgan, on January 24, 2021 at 1:06 PM Posted in Honeymoon 1 11
Hi everyone. Just curious if anyone is continuing to plan an international honeymoon this summer? With the new restrictions of having a negative covid test before leaving US and prior to coming back, I’m not sure this will be possible. We’ve booked a trip to Jamaica but I’m starting to think we need to postpone and schedule something else small in the US. What is everyone else doing?

We’re a September wedding and will do a small domestic mini-moon right after, and plan a bigger international trip for 2022. For us, we wanted more clarity around vaccines and travel restrictions before planning, but it seems like this year things will be opening up so you may be good to go ☺️

We are postponing our international honeymoon until things are safer and more consistent. There are just too many variables and bad “what if” situations right now for us to feel confident in traveling this year. There is also a huge lack of consistencies from one place to another, making the ability to even get a covid test in a foreign country potentially very difficult. And we didn’t want the possibility of contracting the virus and being stuck in a foreign country where there could be a language barrier and very different health regulations. Or worse, end up in a foreign government forced quarantine facility. We decided we’d much rather just do a honeymoon here in the U.S. then plan our international “sequel honeymoon” on our 1 or 2 year (or 5 year if necessary) anniversary.

We never booked anything, but were planning on somewhere in the Caribbean. We made the final decision earlier this month to pull the plug and go to a resort of a few days in Florida instead and we'll go on an international "honeymoon" for our one year anniversary. With the new administration and vaccine roll out, there's a chance those restrictions could be reversed by summer. It's all so up in the air Smiley atonished

We are also planning on a domestic mini-moon and a bigger international honeymoon once covid restrictions are lifted. Our thinking is that if we are going all out on a honeymoon, we don’t want to have restrictions or face closed restaurants, etc.
We are currently looking into Hilton Head and the Keys.
Obviously California would be lovely, but it’s much more restricted.

We just booked our May trip to St. Lucia this week. We were aware of the new guidance, and while we are hopeful that it is temporary and will be lifted before then, we felt comfortable moving forward even if it is not. We can cancel our resort 30 days in advance if we change our mind, and we purchased both flight and resort insurance in case anything happens. Our resort (Sandals) also does the COVID testing onsite, so that eliminated another concern of trying to find a testing facility in a foreign country. Our case is a little different though as we both recently had COVID. There is a chance we could continue to test positive, so we will be allowed to bring a letter from our doctors on the off chance we test positive saying that we have already recovered from the virus - this is outlined in the CDC guidance so just wanted to mention it for other couples in a similar situation.

We’re going to Jamaica too!!! Booked a 7 night at a Sandals resort. We’re getting married on 4/3/21 & we’re flying out on 4/5. We’re getting the 2nd rounds of our COVID vaccine next week. We also plan on getting tested prior to our wedding so we have proof of a negative test & our vaccine records to show. Sandals will also test us 72 hours prior to us flying home- free of charge.

So we are currently booked for the Bahamas for our honeymoon this June. With the current guidelines we are strongly considering postponing and going to the Florida keys instead for obvious reasons. I will like to see how this week play out as far as how long these guidelines are in place and if they are for the rest of the year then we will cancel our international honeymoon.

We had initially planned to go to Costa Rica 3 days after our May wedding, but now I'm thinking about pushing it. It makes me too nervous to consider that one of us could test positive before leaving and not be able to go, or while we are there and not be able to return. I'll be vaccinated, but my fiance is not eligible yet and likely won't be by then. The stress is too much for me, so we are doing a minimoon and then will do Costa Rica next year!

So we are kinda in a quandary on this too. We booked our honeymoon last year on Travel Tuesday thinking things would be better by April 🤪 As of now we are still scheduled to go to Antigua and Barbuda, and are required to have a negative Covid test prior to entry and then like you mentioned within 3 days of returning to the US. Our resort is providing on site testing which helps, but my concern is that if one of us tests positive we can quarantine at the resort for a “discounted” fee of $550 per day. Multiply that by 14 days 😱 Plus, just the possibility of being in a foreign country with COVID just worries me. So, I’m allowing myself to hold off (mourn) a little more but the way things are going we’ll likely cancel and explore mini moon options stateside and do the bigger honeymoon next year. We fortunately got insurance so at least we would get our money back and use it towards our big honeymoon. We shall see...

I currently have a cruise booked to leave from Italy in August. However, I am starting to think about postponing until 2022. I really wanted to go to Europe, but I do not see US travel restrictions easing up this summer. This is a real bummer for me, and I am working to get past my disappointment. I truly thought by this summer things would be much different.
