Not at all! There's plenty of inspirational photos online that show a groom and his party in different colored suits. It's ultimately your decision what you guys do.

It's not required, but they should be of equal formality. For instance, if the groom wears a tux then the best man should also wear a tux. Personally, I don't like the the groom in a different color tux than the best man/groomsmen. My husband wore a different color tie, vest and pocket square to stand out and coordinate with my dress.

Nope! A lot of grooms wear different colors from the groomsmen.

As a matter of fact the consensus among mens wear experts is that it's preferable to not match.

You can do whatever you like! I personally loved the groom in a completely different color than the groomsmen, so I had my husband in navy with a grey vest that matched the groomsmen, who were in full grey suits. The bride obviously stands out, so I wanted to make sure he really stood out too! Here's some photos of how it turned out... hope this helps!
