Suit vs. Tuxedo

My FH and I have been discussing what he’ll be wearing for the wedding and are currently leaning g towards a suit. We want him to wear light gray (June wedding) and he definitely wants a vest so he doesn’t have to wear the jacket all night.

My mom and aunt asked what he was thinking of wearing and when I told them they started freaking out because he HAS to wear a tuxedo. They don’t think a suit will be fancy enough. Is it a big deal for him to wear a suit instead of a tuxedo?

My fiancé is wearing a navy blue suit. He wanted to wear a vest but doesn’t want to wear a jacket but is for me. Let him wear what he is comfortable with. I think suits look wonderful. On the plus side he’ll have a nice suit to wear when you go out, right

How formal is the rest of your wedding? I think tuxes often seem too formal for all but true black tie weddings. A nice suit will look great, be perfect for your special occasion, and be something he can wear to figure events. Thank your mom and aunt for their opinions and then change the subject.

My FH is wearing a suit for our June wedding as well. I think it’s perfectly fine, and certainly formal enough!

It depends on how formal the rest of your wedding is as to whether he should wear a suit or tux.

My FH & his groomsmwn are wearing blue suits for our Leap Day wedding! I wanted them to be able to wear them again so all the guys bought them from Macy’s (which was, actually, cheaper than renting). I’ve been to several weddings where the guys wear suits!

I personally thinks suits are better, gives the groomsmen the option to purchase a nice suit to have in their wardrobe too. After the ceremony they’ll be dancing the night away anyways.

The only difference between a suit and a tux is the satin stripe going down the pant legs and on the collar. A lot of tuxes now a days have very little satin on them so you can’t really tell the difference between them and a suit. I used to work at tux shop and our grey “tuxes” were technically suits as there was no satin on them.
