Suit Rentals

Susanne, on April 11, 2019 at 12:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hi Everyone!

I recently started looking onto menswear for my October wedding. We are looking for rentals (as most of the guys in the wedding party will never wear another suit in their life). And we just want basic, navy suits.

I started pricing it out at Men's Warehouse, Tuxedo Junction, and Generation Tux, and most of the prices that I am getting for suit rentals that I like are in the $200+ dollar range (even my bridesmaid dresses were less than that, and they get to keep theirs). Yes, that includes shoes and ties and everything that is needed for the outfit, but to me, this seems very high for a rental, and I hesitate to ask all the groomsmen to pay this much.

I am just wondering if these prices are in line with normal suit rentals? How much did you all pay for suit rentals? Any recommendations of places where I could get a better deal?

I know that we can

Thanks in advance!

We ran into the same kind of problem. We talked to Men's Warehouse and Joseph A Banks, and although we haven't completely decided yet, we'll probably go with Joseph A Banks. They often run deals on their travelers suits for $250 (or less if you're lucky) and they get to keep the suit. It doesn't come with a shirt, shoes, tie, etc, but we're planning to tell the guys to wear black shoes and a white shirt, which they all have already, and give them matching ties and socks along with their gifts. The suit game is pretty ridiculous haha

Ugh I was hoping the response would be "wow that's crazy, if you go to xyz they'll be half as expensive" LOL.

Thanks for the advice on Joseph A Banks - we will look into that!! Good luck with your planning Smiley smile

Unfortunately that’s about average. Our rentals are $145 (from the black tux) for tux, vest, shirt, and tie. Shoes would add another $25. On the plus side if the groomsmens outfits are $200+ on The Black Tux then the grooms is free. There are also coupon codes floating around.

Haha I wish I had advice like that! It's super annoying that most places also advertise suit/tux rentals starting at $99...which really means they have one crappy black suit you can rent for $99, and pretty much everything else is $200+. I've looked into Black Tux briefly - they're an online rental company that looks like they have options between $100 and $150, but it makes me a little nervous to have something shipped to the guys really close to the wedding despite seeing good reviews. Anyways...good luck to you too!

Thank you! I will look into The Black Tux. I foolishly overlooked them assuming they only had tuxedos (misleading company name I guess) but I'll definitely look into it now!

Haha they definitely promote their tuxes the most, but they have a great selection of suits as well!

We did the black tux and I believe it was $160. That included shoes, socks, cufflinks etc. They have non tux options as well.

These are the prices we are running into also. It really bugs me too, because they don't even get to keep their suits!!

FH and I are looking into buying his suit, mostly because I want a better value. He can wear the suit again, and we can buy one for about the same price as renting one. He's also going to talk to his GMs about that as well.

    Yeah that's about average...

We went to MW and our guys' rentals will be ~$170. We cut costs for them by eliminating the socks and shoes. My FH and I figured that a grown man should already have a decent pair of black dress shoes. If not, their wives will help take care of that lmao. Plus I wasn't too particular about them matching as I'm allowing the girls to wear whatever shoes they like as well.

Unfortunately that sounds about right.. I live in western NY & we were surprised by those prices too. But after we talked to a few groomsmen who had recently been in other weddings they said that’s about what they paid so we felt a little better about it. Thankfully we won a “spin the prize wheel” type thing at a bridal show and all the groomsmen will be getting $70 off their rentals, and because we have so many groomsmen my FH got a free rental & we got a bonus rental (which we split between my dad and his dad). But I won’t lie, still expensive. This was through tuxedo junction btw, Men’s warehouse would’ve been more.

That's about average. We did the black tux and highly recommend them.

I am grateful for all of your input! I'm happy to know it's not just me getting those prices! I guess this is one of those times that the men get the short end of the stick. Smiley atonished
I appreciate all of your cost cutting tips and will definitely look into them! Thanks as always!

Kelly did you/your husband like Black Tux? Any problems? We’re thinking of renting grey suits from them and despite the mostly positive reviews, the few negative reviews really scare both of us!

We had zero issues!! I liked that the suit came two weeks before the wedding so if there were any issues we would’ve had time to fix it.

Are there any smaller, non-chain, tux places in your area? We checked out Mens Warehouse but then went to a small, non-chain place and the tuxes went from 280 at Men’s Warehouse to 180 at the smaller tux rental place (shoes, tux, shirt that they get to keep, ties, cuff links, and suspenders included). And I feel the place we are going with has better quality and more options. I would do some googling for tux rental shops in your area, worth a shot.

This guy reviewed a bunch of the rental options out there and gives VERY detailed information. He said "The Groomsman Suit" actually lets you keep your suit/tux for the rental price. He also said that "The Black Tux" and the former sites were the best of all of the ones he tried. Hope that helps (I know I'm late to the forum... sorry).
