Suit for bride

Jraye07, on January 3, 2018 at 8:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Hello,

I am getting married October 2018 to my partner. She is wearing a dress but I am not the girly type so I want a suit. It does not have to be a mens suit but I like mens suit styles better. Does anyone know where a good place to look is? Should I be looking at typical men's places and then have it tailored to fit? or maybe somewhere that does men's style suits made for women? I am in Maryland. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

I'm not sure what your budget is, or where in Maryland you are but my H had a custom tux made from Enzo Custom Tailor in DC. Enzo does beautiful work.

Any nice department store will have women's and men's suits. I'd start there so you can see how they both fit in one place and have someone knowledgeable help you. Dillards, macys, nordstroms are my recs. If you want to rent, I don't think most tux places will have specifically female-cut suits but can certainly take measurements and for you.

The main difference is cut of the suit .. men are shaped different.. I think a custom suit would be yp ur best bet .. and a plus a suit can be worn more then a wedding dress ..

Men’s suits are cut very differently than women’s, i would suggest a women’s dress suit.

I realize that suits are cut differently. but the styles are also different. I don't like the style of suits made for women. so i need someone to make a mens style suit and tailor it to fit me. but not everyone is lgbt friendly or willing to make a suit to fit me. Pants aren't usually an issue. Its typically the jackets bc if i get it to fit my chest it doesn't fit my shoulders. i look like i'm wearing 80's shoulder pads lol. but i appreciate all of the suggestions from everyone.

Seconding the Enzo recommendation, we went to their location in Philly for my H's bespoke (custom) suit. They also fit for women i believe and their suits are GORGEOUS and reasonable priced. A suit package starts at about $595 and includes a full suit (pants, jacket and vest) a custom made shirt (A MUST) and a handmade tie. You can probably replace the tie with a bowtie, or drop it all together. But at least get a custom shirt with the suit, totally worth it. Whole process takes about 3-5 weeks.

Ok so with the jacket issue you have, that's where a suit cut for a woman would come in. They are cut to accommodate a woman's shape. Do you prefer a man's suit because it's less form-fitting? Or what about a men's suit do you prefer over a woman's suit? If you know more specifically what you like, that will make it easier to find. There are so many different styles and cuts of suits for both, so instead of just saying men's suit vs. women's suit, which is kinda vague, think about the specifics of what you like or don't like.

My FW also prefers men’s suits over women’s, she doesn’t like the look of the the women’s suit. We are attending a wedding next month and she went to Jim’s Formal Wear, she went into the store and got measured because usually the men’s suits fit her chest and shoulders weird. She decided to rent her suit not buy and she gets it for four days for about $180, which I don’t think is too bad considering it will fit her perfect. Hope that helps!

I’m not sure if this is what you’re looking for but I adore the new women’s line out of suit supply. Look like much nicer lines and less frilly than most women’s suits to me

Came across these sites after some googling...

Not sure of your price range, but it's a start. I would also think you could go to some stores such as Men's Warehouse, etc and ask if they can help. Good luck!

If it's in your price range, I'd definitely look into getting one custom-made. That way, you can get the elements of the men's suit that you like, but made to fit the way you want it to fit. I've seen some photos in here of some brides/bridesmaids in really sharp suits.

Have you tried reaching out to any tailors to see if they've made suits for women? I'd be checking out their websites to see if they have any examples too. If there aren't any in your immediate area, I'd imagine there would be some in Baltimore, Philly and NYC, depending on how far you're willing to travel.

    Good luck with your search!

Not sure what the cost of this one was, but I think it might be closer to what you are looking for. Less feminine in style, but still fitted correctly for her shape.
