Suggestions for mob dresses?

Kelsey, on August 8, 2019 at 2:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 27

Ok, before I start this I know I am over a year away from my wedding; but knowing my mom and how picky she is we are going to start looking soon because this might take awhile. Does anyone have any suggestions of places to shop, my mom refuses to buy anything for clothing online. My mom needs to be in plus sizes, but doesn't like to wear dark colors because she has psoriasis on her scalp and she sometimes has white flakes on her shoulders and hair. Most of the dress her and I have looked at in her sizes are too dark for her to wear. I also get it, dark colors are supposed to be more slimming. She also doesn't like champagne color or pink because she says she looked washed out in it. She liked one dress in purple/ lilac, but it was at a sample sale and wasn't available for re-order (I have called every store within 150 miles trying to find her size in that dress with no luck). I also don't really care what she wears as long as she feels good in her dress. Any suggestions, please?

My mom ordered dresses from Azazie, David's Bridal, Nordstroms, Macys, and BLHDN to try on at our house, and returned the ones she didn't like. The one she picked was from Nordstroms!

Yeah I tried to have my mom do that, she refuses to order anything online and return it. I'm not sure why, but she is very adamant about it. I think it's a great idea plus I think she would be comfortable trying stuff on at home more than the store, but she keeps saying no.

Huh, interesting! Well all but Azazie you can go into the stores to try on, they just don't stock a lot in the store compared to online.

What about a tan or pale yellow? Or a light blue or green?

Macy's, Avenue, any left over Sears, TJMaxx, Torrid does plus size clothing but it's aimed at younger adults, they do have some nicer dresses though.

I know this too lol. Actually one of her friends suggested she do this, I had to have a bridesmaid dress altered and her friend is a seamstress; anyway we were talking and the seamstress suggested my mom do that. And my mom was like no absolutely not. Part of me is tempted to just order some stuff for her but I don't think that would go over too well.

I also suggest a pale blue or purple. Grey's and metallic (silver) tones are currently in style that wouldn't show white flakes if she's worried.

I know you said she doesn't want to wear something from online, but if you have Amazon Prime. There is Prime Wardrobe. Basically, you can order dresses and they will mail them to you. You have to order at least 3. You try them on and whatever you don't like you mail back within 1 week. You aren't charged unless you keep the item. David's bridal is also a good option.

My mom got her dress at David’s Bridal, but a lot of their plus sized dresses are dark colors (my mom’s is a super dark navy) department stores like Macy’s, Dillard’s, Nordstrom, etc... might be her best bet. They usually have a pretty good selection in store and they offer a variety of colors and shapes.

Thank you! I know the larger town that we are going to in a few weeks has a Macy's, TJMaxx and Torrid; not sure about Sears but worth taking a look!

I have Prime yes. Maybe I will look into that and just put it on my account. I know she wants to go to David's Bridal too.

Also MOB dresses tend to be dark blues so if you're looking and a sales person asks you mention you want a light color.
My mother is also notoriously picky 🤣

I feel your pain. I've suggested my mom look online so many times, esp. eShakti because they have a whole section of really nice dresses in natural fibers which my mom prefers and she refuses to buy anything online. Smiley amazing

I think my mom tried Macy's and Nordstrom's. I'm not even sure if she has her dress yet because she's bought 2 dresses and later decided she didn't like them. How having to go back to the stores to return them is better than sending something off in the mail, I don't know. Moms. What are you gonna do?

Yeah those were the colors I was thinking too. She really did like that purple dress she tried on. But I can't find it anywhere lol. Thank you for your suggestions. My FH likes to say it's going to take longer to find your mom's dress compared to your own. He is probably right

Good idea. I think she has a hard time picturing a dress in a different color so my hope is by going to David's bridal she can at least see some different colors that might work.

I had the same conversation! My mother and my sister will take more effort to get dressed.

My mom tried on lots of dresses at Macy's. I think she is a size 16 and had lots of options.

I found my dress on the first shopping trip lol. So far my mom and have gone twice. Which is fine, I love spending time with her. What my mom also doesn't know is that purposely switched my bridesmaid dresses from being in dusty blue to stormy blue (both from azazie) so that way if she wanted to she could wear light blue. Don't get me wrong I like both colors, but that was the main reason for switching
