Suggestions for creating wedding invitations on a military base??

Courtney, on March 12, 2020 at 11:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

My wedding is in July and I am unsure on what should be included and where to get my invitations from. Being on a military base we have to get everyone's birthday, full name, and middle initial and alphabetize them so that they can be given to the gate and guests are able to enter on the day of the event. How should this be presented to guests in an invitation? We are also having our reception and ceremony both on base but not in the same location and for those who are not familiar bases it can be kind of confusing, should we add something for directions from the ceremony to the reception? We are also doing a sit-down dinner with three dinner options for adults and a child option as it was more cost efficient than the buffet options. However, it requires us to also get each guests meal choice. My Fiances family is also from Texas and will be flying in. Where is it appropriate to put hotel suggestions?

How would each of these be presented to guests in the invitation?

Is there a certain order they should be put in, things that do not need to be included, or something I am forgetting?

I am getting very overwhelmed trying to figure out how and what to include and where to create them that won't be super expensive. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions and help! Pictures or examples would also be very helpful! THANK YOU!

You Could Make A Wedding Website Here On Wedding Wire And When Guests RSVP They Can Choose Their Meal Options. You Can Also Put Hotel Suggestions, And Where The Ceremony And Reception Will Take Place. I Put My Wedding Website On Our RSVP Cards.

I would make a detailed wedding website AND on your RSVP card I would customize them (easy to do on any website where you order invites), instead of just putting the standard "we have reserved __ seats in your honor" I would literally write out:
"First Name _____ Middle Name _____ Last Name ______ DOB ______ (required by military base venue for each guest)"

and you can also include on there:

"Mean Choice Option 1: blah blah, Option 2: blah blah, Option 3: blah blah"

I have thought about only doing a wedding website and putting it on invitations but am worried that it may be difficult for some to navigate and others who may not understand how to find it. I know that most have internet and it seems pretty simple, but some of the older generation invited I know does not use the internet often or at all. Is there a proper place to put a wedding website on an invitation?

Also, you have the same name as my sister spelling and all! We never see it spelled often as Trisha, it always has a c! Smiley smile

Thank you! I like that idea a lot as it makes it hard for them to miss! Is there anywhere you'd suggest getting/making invitations?

My Name Is ALWAYS Misspelled As TRICIA Ugh! But I Agree With The PP About The Custom RSVP Cards, Etsy Might Be A Good Option.

I did mine on Minted and they were great to work with!

They also have a lot of options for matching details cards, directions cards, and other inserts that you may want to include too. That way you can include your directions and everything on the website AND directly in their envelope.

I would make a wedding website (we used zola) and only let people rsvp there so you dont have to make a crazy rsvp card. You can really easily ask guests their birthday and middle name or literally any question you can think of on the website when they rsvp! It will also ask them their meal choice. Plus you can make an FAQ page and a schedule page where you could be more detailed about the location and directions, but your invite should be clean and simple. Ceremony at *vendor name and address*, dinner and dancing to follow at *vendor name and address*. I would only say that if they need to DRIVE to two locations. If they're just walking a little bit on base I would just put the location of the ceremony and have your wedding planner direct people from there. Wedding website will also have a spot for hotel suggestions.

Is there a specific number of "First Name _____ Middle Name _____ Last Name ______ DOB ______ (required by military base venue for each guest)" that should be put? Like how many spots should be available to fill out?
