Suede shoes with satin dress

Is this a no-no? My bridesmaids (my older cousins) have told me I cannot wear suede heels with my satin ball gown but I don’t really understand why. Has anyone done this, or do you think it would look strange? By suede shoes I mean either suede Oxford style shoes with a mid heel (in navy, wedding color), or navy suede heels with an ankle strap. Both have an almond toe shape. Is that too casual for a big satin ball gown? I’m constantly walking the line between elegant and rustic/somewhat more relaxed for the whole wedding so I didn’t think suede shoes would be odd but they are extremely against it. I don’t think people will even see my shoes all that much! Give me your thoughts please!

As you said, no one will even see your shoes under your dress unless you pick up the skirt. I say wear whichever shoes you like as long as they are comfortable for you 🙂

I tend to follow fashion rules. I would say no to the suede shoes. Nonetheless, it is your day so do what you feel is best!

I think it would look ok since they are a different and darker color. But I am also wearing chucks so not like I'm very proper lol.

Typically no, you would not wear semi-casual velvet shoes with a satin ballgown. However, it’s your wedding day and you can wear any shoes you choose! Like you said, you are wearing a large gown and your shoes probably won’t be seen anyway. Plus, you are more likely to get more use out of those shoes, as they are casual enough to wear later with jeans, dresses, etc.

No one will see the shoes unless you specifically show them off. The variation in texture is not something that anyone will ever care about or notice. Cousin needs to mind their own business.

Thanks for the input everyone! As for the shoes, I did decide against suede .. I can wear those in daily life so I’ve let them buy me some very nice satin heels to match the extravagance of my dress 😅

Probably a good choice just for a consistent look. You can always keep the suede shoes handy if you want to change at the reception.
