Such a bundle of nerves lol

We mailed out our invites today ๐Ÿ™‚. We also went and got our marriage license which I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand it makes me excited because it feels that much realer. But I'm just a bundle of nerves over changing my name. I ultimately decided to keep my maiden name but also add my fh last name without a hyphen. I'm Bears hes Rizk so it was going to be Bears Rizk. I don't do well with any changes really lol and changing my name is just so huge, plus I have a son who has my maiden name. But me taking my fhs name is very important to him and I do respect his feelings which is why I was doing both. So we get to city hall and after we fill out the paper work the lady informs me in the state of NH they require the hyphen. I know its such a little thing, just a tiny dash, but its really bothering me, I have just almost barely come around to having the two last names and now I have to have a hyphen which I really didn't want. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

If you don't feel comfortable changing your name, don't! Tell your FH how you feel. He needs to respect YOUR wishes. This is your name, not his.

Does NH allow two middle names? You could shift one name there

Most women in my family drop the middle name and take the maiden name as last name, would that work?
Its totally normal to feel nervous about big changes!

We've talked about it in length. I mean ultimately the decision is mine no matter what he says he can't force me to do anything and I know that. But I don't think he fully gets where I'm coming from either since hes not in my shoes. It also doesnt help that hes the only male and wants his future children to carry his name. I don't want to make my future kids have a hyphenated name either. Its all a jumble in my head. The only thing I do know is I absolutely love him and I'm not scared of the actual marriage part of it all, I think I need to just get out of my own head about it.

Thanks lol. And I thought about it but doing that is too many changes for me. I can't deal with changing both my middle and my last lol. I'm more just mad they won't let me have both names without the - ....I wasn't mentally prepared.

States are so weird! My ss card had my name as First Maiden Last, so that was *literally my name.*
I had my oldest in Ga in 1997 and they would not let me use that name. I had to tell them the middle name I was born with. It made me really mad. I could see if they were going to go by my entire birth name for some reason. But they put my married last name. My second child was born in Hawaii and they used my actual legal name.

I changed my middle name to my maiden name because I wanted to keep my maiden name in some way. You could always go that route!
