Style number of my dress

Allie, on August 15, 2019 at 9:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

I'm trying to figure out the style number of my dress in hopes of seeing how other brides bustled the dress (I'm trying DIY). The tags say Mori Lee, but I can't for the life of me find it online. I've even looked back through their 2017 styles. I've also tried typing in key words like floral or rose train, ruching, etc. The dress has a detachable one shoulder strap that has flowers to match the train. Can anyone help with this? Maybe it's just a really old style or not a Mori Lee.

Could you call the shop that you purchased it from and ask?

(Picture Heavy) Allie, it a trumpet style dress right? Do you know? If so I would look up that type of dress and see if that would work for you? They say for a trumpet dress the French style or the American style of bustle works best. It's up to you if you want it tucked under or put on the outside. I know there are five different styles to bustle a dress. 1) The American Bustle: over the dress 2) Victorian Bustle: multiple pickups 3) Austrian Bustle: the bustle is centered pickup of the material 4) French bustle: the material is underneath 5) Bow Bustle: the material is secured by ribbon or bow or made into a bow. I hope that helps! I was looking for your dress everywhere too but I couldn't find it for the style number. Maybe see if the store you bought it at knows?

Hmm your dress is a mystery! I couldn’t find it anywhere. There was a similar one from fall 2010 but it didn’t have your train. I’m starting to think it’s not a Mori Lee but I can’t even find a dress like yours in any other designer either.
Your train is unique! Your dress is pretty special then. ❤️

Wow! Brittany did an awesome job of presenting the options! OP -- I agree your dress is gorgeous & you look amazing in it. The detail on the train, for me, is what makes it truly unique and extra special, so I think I'd try to bustle in a way that preserves as much of the look of the train as possible. I think all the detail will be lost in any over bustle with pick-ups, so I'd definitely try the French/under bustle. Daughter's dress was an a-line ballgown with lace and tulle layers on top of a satin under layer. Her alterations person did a 3-point over bustle on the lace/tulle layers and a 3 point under bustle on the under layer. The under bustle (which is usually attached with ribbon ties), held up MUCH better than the over layers (which torn out midway through the reception and we had to use safety pins to fix it). I know you said you're trying to do it yourself, so I'd find someone -- mom, friend, whomever -- who can help you and then watch a ton of Youtube videos together on how to do it. Because your gorgeous train flares out as much as it does, I'd guess you might need at least 5 pick-up points underneath the skirt (center, on either side where the tulle embellishment meets the satin, and possibly further out on either side) to make sure the fold lays flat. If I'm remembering right, I think you're an engineer, so once you understand how you want to do it, the fact that it's mostly about figuring out the math (how many inches you need to lift the back of the skirt at various points) will be easy for you. Then it's just a matter of pinning the ribbons in place and testing it out until you get it the way you want. Then, just make sure the ribbons are sewn VERY securely into place so they can support the weight of the skirt all evening. Good luck! Smiley heart

And, I have to say, I think the "bow style" bustle is very, um, "unique"?!?!??? LOL!

I too searched everywhere I found a similar dress from Mori Lee in 2017 but it was a more dramatic mermaid and didn’t have the floral detail. If budget isn’t a huge problem there’s a company that started recently that makes custom wedding gowns (Anomalie? Maybe...) good licky

I'm definitely doing the over bustle. It needs 3 points. I'm pinning it up tonight.

Yay! I am glad you know which style of bustle you are doing! I have been searching for your dress and I still can't find the style number for you! I am sorry! I hope that you are able to find some good ideas of how on Pinterest or Youtube.
