Stupid question - Escort Cards?

HI Ladies,

This must just be a regional thing, but what on earth are escort cards? Every wedding I've ever been to or seen had a seating chart, that just listed table numbers and names, and maybe said where the tables are. Where does an escort card fall into place? Do you also have place cards on the tables? I am so confused about what they are haha, help!

    These are mine. They fan out around a centerpiece for people to find their tables. I still dunno how people are honestly going to locate their tables in an orderly fashion.

    In my area (Chicago) we tend to do escort cards. They are arranged alphabetically by last name.

    @Janeen, did you make those?

    I bought folded business cards but trying to find a way to jazz them up (I'm creatively challenged).

    I did not. I am DIY-challenged.

    In my area, most brides use "place cards" as we call them. They are just folded cards like Janeen showed and have your name and table number on them. They are placed in alphabetical order so you can find your name quickly. If you sort them by table number, it takes a long time for guests to find their name, especially if you have a lot of tables.

    I've seen both the place cards and the seating chart. I guess what we're doing is more like a place card. They'll be in the photobooth frame and look like this

    We are doing escort cards and it will be attached to their guest favor. (Killing two birds with one stone.) This way the "card" so-to-speak doesn't get lost and it'll all be in alphabetical order. I can't do a seating chart because my family won't read it. It'll look like this except strung onto the guest favor.

    We did a seating chart, arranged in alphabetical order. It worked out easily, as guests could find their last name and then the table # next to it.

    I think some escort cards can be SO cute though!

    We did both. Escort cards (because I like someone to put at my seat and because I always forget what table I am at...like flying on a plane and constantly having to look at my ticket to remember my seat). And then a seating chart. I think the seating chart was easier of the two. But whatever you do I would encourage to do something you can modify last minute as we had changes to be made up until Friday of the wedding.

    I have mostly seen escort cards as they are more traditional. However, seating posters are becoming more common. A seating poster can be set up on an easel and moved anywhere. They can be set up for cocktail hour as well and people can check their table anytime throughout the hour. They don't have to be only in front of the dining room. We set ours up for cocktail hour and it worked fine. No crowding around.
