Stumped on what to do for late reception

So, my FH is all set on us having a candlelit ceremony at dusk and I love the idea as well. However, this puts our reception at around 8:30pm. Should we just do a fairly short reception with heavy hors d’vors and cake cutting? I just have no idea.

My wedding is at 730pm and we are having cocktail hour and a full dinner. If you don't want a full dinner you at least need heavy apps and enough of them to equal a full meal

I definitely think that you should offer a meal. I know a lot of people who do not eat dinner until 7 pm. If people are hungry than they are not going to as involved in the ceremony and may actually leave to get food. Good luck!

I say it depends on your audience. We have a late reception as well. We are bringing in Dueling Pianos and creating more of a bar/party scene. Our wedding however is not the day of the party - so we can pull this idea off more easily. I see nothing wrong at all with your idea. Everyone is there to celebrate you - do what you are most comfortable with. I would be thrilled to show up to a cake / appetizer reception for my friends to show my love/support.
