Hi there! I'm noticing on our local Hilton's website that they have banquet rooms open for 70 guests or 150 strolling guests.

Strolling receptions mean that there are food stations which is ever so slightly different than a buffet. I'm thinking a hybrid between a buffet and a strolling reception could be sort of beautiful. Stations with a limited number of sitting tables. Anyone been to anything like that or have thoughts? Personally I really don't like receptions with assigned seating because I think people will gravitate towards people they're open to meeting if there's not that much pre-orchestrated for them. I was at a wedding yesterday and really enjoyed meeting and dancing with all the brides other friends, and I imagine we probably would not have been sat together if she had a floor plan bc we were from dift cities. Love to hear your perspectives!

Also, are you doing a first dance, parent-child dances, and toasts? During these moments will some of your guests sit while others awkwardly stand and watch?

My dad uses a cane and has difficulty standing for long periods. He's also old school and would wait to make sure others have a seat before him. It would make it awkward for him to attend a wedding where he has to compete for seating.

Assigned tables gives people direction and takes away awkward wavering, people with disabilities having issues and avoids confusion.

Like you said, people will mingle and move seats after dinner anyway. This allows those who like to mingle the option after while giving the shy types a preassigned area to avoid awkwardness.
