Stressing about Postage

Courtney, on February 3, 2020 at 6:05 PM Posted in Planning 0 11
I posted earlier about sending out my invites this week for my April wedding. I went and mailed them after work today.

I'm stressing because I saw somewhere on here on another post where someone said you may need to get them weighed for extra postage.
I did include an inner envelope, but I just put in the invitation and a RSVP postcard. I put one stamp on the outer envelope and a stamp on the RSVP postcard. They honestly didnt feel that heavy to me, but now I'm stressing that something is going to go wrong if I didn't add enough postage!

The worst that can happen is they mail all your invitations back to you. Unfortunately when we sent ours out, that weight was okay but because of the size of the envelope we had to have a second stamp. But no biggie, we just added another stamp on what we got back and re dropped them off. Everyone seemed to get their invite the second time around. Smiley smile

It sounds like you will be fine. Some people have really heavy bulky invites or a strange size. Yours sound fine and I wouldnt worry about it.

Okay so they mailed yours back to you? Was there any marking on the envelopes themselves where they indicated you needed the extra postage? Hopefully everything will be okay!

They did use a red stamp on each of the envelopes, which i was really upset about at first. But we covered most of it with the second stamp and then i thought that people are just going to be throwing away that part anyway. :/

But i'm sure they are fine! If it weren't for the size of our envelopes, they were a bit larger, it would have been fine. Our STD's were no issue and we didn't get those weighed either. oops.

Honestly, you'll probably be fine with just the $.55 stamp. I'm including a cardstock pocket, invitation, RSVP card, RSVP envelope, and business card sized details card and mine only weighs 1.2 oz ($.55 stamp has a limit of 1 oz). Unless your inner envelope or invitations were thick, you'll probably be fine.

I thought we would be ok too but to be safe, I made up 1 invitation exactly how I would be mailing them and took it to the PO and had them weigh it and give me a postage price on it. We ended up needing extra postage and had to buy special stamps but thankfully I hadn't bought any regular stamps yet as I was going to while I was there is that was going to be all I needed. Better safe than sorry.

As long as the envelope is not square and is under 1oz. $0.55 stamps are fine. First Class postage is determined by oz. Square envelopes are considered non machinable and have surcharge making postage go up to $0.70 for an oz. or less. I work for a mail house so I can answer any postage questions you might have.

Hello, I currently have a postage question. I recently added a laser cut gate and ribbon to my invitations, and a enclosure card and rsvp card. I made the ribbons flat so nothing is bulky. Would I be safer just going for the 75cent postage? Thanks in advance!

Do you have any extras? For peace of mind you could always go back and check the weight at the post office.
