Stress about A Small Wedding

Allison , on April 7, 2017 at 1:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

My fiancee is in the military & is being deployed in October, (got engaged on April 1) and we both want the wedding before then. Without a wedding planner and having school on top of this is so stressful! Everyone is asking me small details like what kind of food do I want or what plates/linens should we use, or even what will be my "something blue". I have noo idea! I've never fanticized about my wedding, moreover just wanting the right person, which I have. Thankfully it's small, 35 people. But, I'm struggling with keeping it small, while having that feeling and fantasy of a wedding. I think what I want the most advice on is how could I save on the things like flowers and catering? I'm getting married at a garden, so I'm not too worried about the decor part. I have a budget of 3500.00 and am expecting 35 people (+1 are part of that). So how could I make a small wedding nice and enjoyable while maintaining my simple personality?

Have it at a restaurant. The menu is easier, and most have event menus if they host events. The linens and plates are already taken care of, as is a lot of the decor, depending on where you go.

The largest cost for you is still going to be food/bev- so I would start by looking into caterers and getting pricing on what your options are. I'd nail that part down and then see how much money you have left for everything else..For 35 people you should be able to do a nice meal, beer/wine, apps, some simple but pretty décor, your bouquet.. etc. without blowing your budget

ETA: PP is right about hosting the reception at a restaurant. that may make things a lot easier.

I agree a restaurant is the way to go. I would look at BYOB places (maybe Italian with a private room) to keep costs down. Then you can bring in your own wine and beer to have served. You can definitely spend under 2k on food and alcohol with that plan and that amount of people and spend the rest on your dress, groom's suit, decor and bridal party gifts (if you have one). If you want a photographer you may need to increase the budget a tad, but that also depends on how much you can get food for. Good luck!

There are several resturants that will host for you! They have beautiful back rooms that you can decorate (if you want) and order food/drinks. It is much less stress! Plus, they are always happy to host you Smiley smile

My friend (another military bride) did this. They hosted 30 guests at a restaurant for $2,500. Granted it was a 4 course meal and you could probably find cheaper. It included all the food. They got a few flowers, decor pieces, and cake for another $600 and called it a day.

Get a nice little restaurant, a dress, flowers, an officiant, a photographer, a musician of some sort, and you're good to go! We sell this package a lot and it's always under 4000.00

I agree with a restaurant. Some of my favorite weddings are super small and meaningful, held at a private room at a restaurant.

Another option would be a late afternoon wedding with a variety of cakes/pastries. Think "French Tea Party" with vintage linens, tea, coffee, and one signature cocktail.

I agree with a restaurant idea. Also ask any vendors you use if they offer any dicounts. A lot will offer military discounts.

Figure out what's important to you and your fiance and prioritize accordingly. I think the restaurant idea is great for that size.
