Streaming Wedding

Halie, on September 1, 2020 at 10:28 PM Posted in Planning 1 4

Hello,

I've noticed streaming weddings have become a popular option since COVID-19 started. How does this work? We found a venue we are heavily considering. It is out of town and allows maximum 10 guests. Our parents are invited. We would like to be able to stream at least the ceremony for other guests.

My questions...

1. Did guests watch the stream?

2. How was it planned and organized?

3. Were your guests appreciative of this feature?

Yes we had many guests who couldn't attend watch the stream and were really glad they still got to be part of the day and see us get married. I used eventlive and it was super easy. It's $50 and you sign up for when the event is. You can set it up on a phone or device that is able to download their app, and you are able to start the stream up to an hour (i believe) before the event starts so you can start it and forget about it. My brother ran it for me so I didn't even have to worry about it. And you are able to download the video the next day. When you sign up you get a link to give to anyone invited to watch. They don't have to log on or anything but simply click the link and watch. I highly recommend!

My SIL did a backyard minimony and streamed it via Zoom. She is still doing the big wedding next year, but decided that didn't want to push back the actual marriage bit. Close friends and family who couldn't be there watched it. Zoom is free for up to 40 minutes and I think the cap is like 200 people. If you're having a short ceremony it works well. They used an ipad that someone held during the ceremony. And my husband also recorded a video on his phone as a back up.

    DH's cousin just did this.

They eloped in a pretty park with 2 witnesses, the photographer, and the officiant.

They set up a tripod with a tablet and pointed it at the ceremony. However, they didn't take into account microphones, which I would recommend doing.

It was very sweet, though, and we didn't have to travel!

We were going to stream, but we learned the venue doesn't have WiFi and we don't get very good service. We decided to video with my nice DSLR camera so everyone can watch it in HD the following morning. We didn't want to risk the video quality and I have seen a few comments saying their live streams would cut in and out and people would miss a lot of the ceremony.
