Straps to Strapless

Natalia, on November 19, 2019 at 4:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Have any of you had your dress altered from thick straps to strapless? I tried on a strapless wedding dress and I LOVED how it looked on me. I LOVE my wedding dress now, but I just feel like the straps are too thick and it covers my shoulders/collar bones too much. Just not sure if a seamstress would be able to do this or maybe just do thinner straps?

    I love your dress!

Strapless is so uncomfortable honestly hahaha. My dress was strapless and I’d really say that was a downside of it. I say leave it as it is!!

I love your dress. I feel strapless you'll be pulling it up a lot from what I have heard from previous brides as well as my step sister was that way when she had strapless.

They're not going to be able to make it strapless. Strapless dresses have a TON of interior support and construction to keep it up. Your dress is soft and flowy, and doesn't have boning or stiff fabric, etc. They may be able to make the straps thinner, and open up the v, but the straps are what's holding up your gown and allowing it to flow effortlessly

They would have to reconstruct the bodice of your gown entirely to make it strapless. It would be extremely expensive, if not impossible.

I agree with pp that the bodice of a strapless dress would have significantly different construction, so it's unlikely your dress can be changed in that way without MAJOR and likely very expensive alterations. If you really want a strapless gown, I'd purchase one.

FWIW I think your dress is gorgeous, and very flattering as it is. Smiley heart

That dress cannot be made strapless. Probably at best they can thin the straps by cutting some of the fabric. As the other ladies have that is really what holds up adjusting strapless it's what's inside the bodice. I don't know if it is too late to return the dress but if you really are feeling strapless and I think you should have what you want. Mine is going to be a strapless dress which can be annoying but I feel that if it's zips up it's not as bad as the corset. I wore corset bridesmaids just a few years ago and I definitely spent the whole time pulling up. Especially it was during a Catholic mass wedding and which we had to kneel down often lol.

From the pics, you look like you’re in the big chest group like me. I like strapless but for comfort and security I went with straps.
