Strapless Wedding Dresses

Nikki, on October 5, 2016 at 11:58 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

Hi ladies!

I still haven't decided on THE wedding dress, but I wanted to get any opinions on bride-to-be and especially past brides. I have heard from some people that they wish they had gone with a wedding dress with straps because in their strapless dresses, half way through the night they found themselves having to keep pulling their dress up. For the bride to bes, have you heard of this from your newlywed friends and for past brides, has this happened to you? I am aware that you can get removable straps on a strapless dress put on and while that is an option, I've also heard sometimes the straps are uncomfortable or "cut" into you (I'm assuming it depends on the dress alterations).

Thanks ladies!!!

I know my best friend and my sister wished they had gotten straps. My sister was pulling her dress up all night and my best friends dress was a little too big and her bra kept showing. But if you have it correctly altered those may not be issues. I have larger boobs so I'm probably going to go with straps.

That is the exact reason I decided to go with straps on my dress.

My dress has straps but it is an illusion neckline, and it matches my skin so perfectly that when I show people pictures they think my dress is strapless. I am a little obsessed with my dress, but I did find some I tried on with straps were a little itchy so beware of that!

My first wedding dress was strapless, but it was different because I made it myself. I put a LOT of work into the built-in corset, which is what supports the gown. It had boning for shape and support, and a waist stay, which sits at your NATURAL waist (not where we wear our jeans) and provides more support to keep the dress from slipping down. I also had a lightweight corset as an undergarment.

So from my experience in constructing a gown, and wearing it all day (including a day of 4x4ing in my Jeep, a stick shift - my first wedding was kinda different) I think it really depends on the construction of the gown and your undergarments.

FWIW, I'm a 36D or DD, so not small but not as generously endowed as many of my gorgeously curvy friends.

My dress is strapless and I guess I kind of lucked out because aside from a hemming, I don't need any other alterations. The dress hasn't moved yet and I tried to jump in it and dance in it just to be sure. I will add I'm wearing a strapless corset underneath and I'm sure that helps. Fingers crossed that I have no problems in the wedding day!

When you get the dress altered the alterations people should be able to help with it being tight enough to not loosen up. You could also ask someone to keep safety pins with them and just use those to tighten them during the night if the top does loosen.

My dress is strapless and it's semi-mermaid style so the top will be pretty fitted.

My solution to the pulling up problem though is to have my tailor add cups inside the dress so I don't have to wear a bra and just fit it better.
