Storing a dress and veil for six months?

Sarah, on February 9, 2020 at 6:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3

My dress and veil were just delivered, which is incredibly exciting! But now I have to store them until my first fitting in August. I'm really nervous about keeping them in good condition over the next six months – any advice?

I've taken them out of their plastic. Right now the bodice of the dress (which has some delicate lace) is wrapped in white tissue paper. My dress has a long train, but there's a loop on the underside of the train. That loop is hooked on the hanger, so that the train is tucked up/off the ground. The dress is hanging – I know that's not great for heavier dresses, but there isn't anywhere I can lay it flat and not worry about my cats destroying it Smiley sad It's hanging by its little satin "extra" straps (not sure what to call them), so hopefully that will help prevent the actual straps from stretching out? The dress in the garment bag that the bridal salon sent with it.

I folded the veil (chapel length) over a hanger and have it in the same garment bag as the dress. I wrapped the comb in tissue paper – didn't want it to snag on fabric.

Will that be ok? 6 months is a long time, I'm worried!

Just make sure it’s hanging in a dark place like a closet and not out in daylight and you should be fine.

Daughter had her dress for almost a year before the wedding. The salon just told us to be sure to ALWAYS use the ribbon hanging straps and the loop on the train -- exactly what it sounds like you are doing. Keeping it stored in a cloth garment bag (absolutely NO PLASTIC), you should be good. Depending on your cats, I might try to keep the door to the closet and/or the room the dress is in closed. My sister had a long dress ruined (not a wedding dress...) when a cat "sprayed" it.... Daughter's dress had fairly fragile beaded straps, and they were completely fine because she used the ribbon hanging straps. Congrats! Smiley heart
