Store bought cake?

Regina, on July 30, 2022 at 1:20 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
So I have been corresponding with a cake baker and she is not really,um, communicating with me about prices or whether she will be doing the cake. I send her messages and she is not responsive. So basically I’m having anxiety about the cake. My question is is it tacky to get a store bought cake for the wedding?

I think that is perfectly fine. As long as it is what you want and it tastes good all is good.

Several of my friends had cakes from grocery stores - Price Chopper and Hyvee - and they were great.

My rule is as long as it tastes good I don't care where it came from, some grocery stores have really great bakery sections like Publix. Costco has delicious and very affordable sheet cakes. You can always do a small slicing cake and then have large sheet cakes in the back for your guests. This option is a time saver too because the sheet cakes can be pre cut and served immediately after you cut your little cake. Definitely shop around for the cake I recommend if you can't do a tasting to at least buy a small cake in the flavor you are thinking to make sure you like it. Enjoy1

Nothing wrong with a store-bought cake so long as it tastes good. Buying a smaller version of the cake you are considering is the way to go! That way you can see for yourself the quality of what you would be buying and also how it tastes.

Why would it be inappropriate? Who is going to notice or care? Honestly the best wedding cake I have had as a guest was actually from a grocery store bakery and it was out of this world delicious. The cake was so good that the couple served giant birthday cake size slices in 3 flavors (they ordered half sheet cakes) and guests (roughly 150 people) went back multiple times and they polished it off. Every guest said it was the best cake they had in their lives.

That's just fine! Make sure your venue is OK with it, then I see no problem with that.

I see no problem with it! My wedding coordinator said one couple had a store brought cake and just have a fake cake for show.

There would be no problem with a store bought one. My husband’s boss actually had something similar happen to her. Her baker just did not deliver without warning, so family went and got a cake from a grocery store. I’m told no one thought anything of it and they still had a great time! I think she was able to get a refund from the baker seeing as it was a blatant breach of contract.
