I've only heard of this and been to them for a housewarming party, not actually to stock the bar for a wedding.

ETA - You pretty much just ask your guests to bring their favorite liquor, mixers, & wine. It's so you have it for future parties with your friends.

What @alysha said, only i have seen it for a wedding shower. Instead of a shower where someone may bring toasters and sheets, it's a stock the bar, where you bring items for the couple's bar. A bottle of wine, whiskey, stuff for the couple who doesn't want physical gifts (but are still having a shower). NOT to supply alcohol for the couples upcoming wedding.

I'm not a fan of people using this toward a wedding, but I guess it's acceptable as long as you're not planning on having people supply the alcohol and then charging them for it (seriously, some girl posted about doing that a few weeks ago).

Wait... People do this to acquire alcohol to serve at a wedding?! *facepalm*

I'm not a fan of stock the bars as wedding events personally (unless they are in place of another gift-giving occasion), but I have been to a bunch of them for friends. Usually it's for the exact reason alyshadanielle said – to stock their home bar. However, last year I was invited to one that was explicitly for providing alcohol for the wedding. I had never heard of that being the intention prior to this party, so I'm not sure if that's a thing now? I was confused, but we couldn't go anyway...

My friend did this recently in lue of a house warming party. Instead of bringing a house warming gift you brought alcohol. It was pretty fun!

Nope nope nope. If it's a "thing", it's a rude thing.

I have seen it as a couples shower, where you bring alcohol for the couple's bar in their home, NOT for serving at the wedding.

I've never seen it for the purpose of bringing alcohol for the wedding.

I received an invitation last week to one. I think this is in lieu of a shower. Idk if the alcohol is planned to be used for the wedding or not.

Thanks for the info! Friends of fH have offered to throw us one. The only time I've heard of this is when the couple who is throwing it for us had one, but they had ten showers so I kind of thought it was a made up theme when they ran out of other themes. so it looks like we will be having one .. Promise not to use it towards wedding alcohol Smiley smile
