Stipend for Catholic Church Sacristan

Private User, on April 1, 2014 at 3:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 2

I'm wondering if a stipend for the church sacristan is normal and what amount is usually done. The sacristan at our church is the one who runs the rehearsal the night before and sets up the day of (there's very little setting up for ours -- almost none), and she kind of directs the photographer and musicians on where to set up, etc. She'll be there the night before for the rehearsal and then during the wedding. What's an appropriate amount to give her?

Is it included with the cost/contribution to the church? Many are salaried employees. You could always give her a nice thank you card and a small gift.

Our priest gave us the fees for the organist and the vocalist since they set their own, but he didn't provide any guidance on what we should give to anyone else, including the altar servers. So frustrating.

You could ask her directly if she charges a fee for her services and hope she says yes.

I don't know how much you're going to give your priest but you could give her half of whatever you give him.

Good luck. I don't know why these things have to be so complicated, but we went through it too.
