Still haven't received our Wedding Video, 1+ year after wedding

Mae, on September 24, 2018 at 10:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

My husband and I got married over a year ago and we still have not received our wedding video!

The package we chose was supposed to include: 8 hrs of service, 5-7 min highlight video, clean edits of our ceremony, toasts, special dances & digital downloads. Our contract states that our video would be delivered 8-12 weeks after the wedding for our highlight and 14 weeks for remaining videos. It's been over and we have received zero in return. My husband and I were required to pay in full a month before our wedding date.

Our videographer hasn't given us any reason or explanation for the delay. He refuses to respond to any of my calls or emails. For the times that he did decide to respond to me, it was to give us a new delivery date. He's given us 4 new delivery dates. He has been active on all of his social media accounts, and has even completed and published weddings that happened after ours.

I was able to connect with 4 other couples who were clients of his that are experiencing the same issue as me, and I'm seriously considering filing a law suite at this point. Have any of you experienced something similar? What should I do?

I would take to social media. Start leaving reviews on Facebook, WW, The Knot, Yelp, anywhere you can find him. That'll get his attention. If nothing else it will warn other couples not to use him for their big day.

WOW. If he hasn’t been able to finish this in a year, then I don’t think he ever will. If you have a written, signed contract then I would definitely start looking for a lawyer. Stories like this make me so sad - how could someone intentionally ruin such an important moment for people?

At this point I would see an attorney for a free consultation.

I would definitely look into legal action. Have a lawyer review your contract and see the steps you can take. Getting attention to this on social media (Facebook, reviews on websites, etc.) can be a big help. I hope y'all get this settled soon.

Thanks everyone for the advice and moral support so far. It's taken every ounce of me to try and remain calm and quiet because we feared saying anything bad until we got the finished product. But you're all right - I've started leaving reviews on ALL the social media platforms - WW, The Knot, Yelp, Facebook to get his attention!

Definitely threaten legal action. You signed a legal contract this and he has a professional responsibility that he is liable for.

Go to a lawyer with your contract and review your options with them. Also, feel free to team up with all the other couples and leave negative reviews everywhere... and I mean everywhere. He doesn't deserve any more business or to do this to another couple.

I would tell him that you will pursue legal action if he doesn't get you your videos. That can tend to light a fire under people's butts.

Do you have a contract? I'd send him a final email & phone message to let him know you are taking it to small claims court, since you have a binding contract and paid for his service and he broke that contract.

I'm looking into small claims court, the cost and what I'd need to start a case. But was wondering if anyone else has tried this? Was the outcome worth the cost going into it?

Before small claims court, try a few other cheaper things, like a certified letter from an attorney.

This exactly. I'm a professional designer and used to work as a contractor. When clients didn't pay, I would send a certified letter from my attorney. It's much cheaper than actually going to court but still shows your are serious.

I'd file a complaint with the BBB, too.

The same thing is happening to me (same invoice). I don't know what type of lawyer I need, please help. I did not have a contract just an invoice and on it it says usb drive delivery and we have yet to receive anything, he just shared it on youtube with us but I already requested for the usb drive.
