Stiff veil! Advice?

MrsVoegs17, on May 4, 2017 at 9:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

So I ordered a 2 tier beaded veil from Amazon and received it yesterday. It was folded 3 times to fit in he package, and upon opening it and taking a look, I like how it looks, I don't think it looks cheap, but the tulle seems hard and stiff and it laid really weird when I tried it on (assuming from being in packaging for a while). It was also pretty heavy for my hair when I tried it on. I am wondering if steaming it would help eliminate some of the stiffness.

Has anyone ordered a veil from online and had this issue? I got this veil for way cheaper than I would have in any bridal shop, and since I only plan on wearing it during the ceremony, this is one thing I just can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on. Looking for some advice before I immediately resort to returning it.

Thanks!

You might try steaming it, as well as rubbing dryer sheets on it- sometimes the fabric softener will help with stiffness. You can also try hanging it to get some of the kinks out. But, some tulle just is stiff, and a lot of times that is the cheaper tulle.

Yea I agree. I make tulle tutu's for little girls and the tulle I use is so soft and pliable, and that's my worry is that it might just be too cheap and need to go back. I had considered making my own veil but I just don't know that I have the time or patience for it. I just can't understand why they are so darn expensive! LOL.

@Sara, was yours white or ivory? Any issues with losing color? I am borrowing a steamer from a girlfriend so maybe I'll wash it by hand tonight and then let it dry and steam it tomorrow night. Mine was $30 from Amazon too and I think it will be beautiful if it just softens up a bit!

I ordered one from Amazon and had the same issue. The tulle and beads looked really cheap so I sent it back.

Ordered mine from Etsy and it had some creases from packaging as well. I just hung it up for a couple months and it straightened out. You could also hang it in your bathroom while you shower to steam it that way. That's what my mom suggested I do but I didn't need to.

Mine isn't stiff (from davids bridal). But it did get wrinkled from being folded up for a few months. Davids bridal steamed it for me and it looks great now.

@MrsVoegs17 did you end up getting the creases out? I'm looking for a veil too.

I did a quick steam on it when I steamed my grad gown, and the creases came out and the tulle seemed to loosen up. But I didn't pay super close attention before folding it back up and sticking it in a tote. I'll be pulling it out again next week to steam again in preparation for my first fitting in two weeks.
