Step parent program wording

Lacie, on January 17, 2017 at 10:32 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I am having a hard time figuring out the proper format of my wedding programs... my "step mom" plays a very important role in my life. She is not legally married to my father.. she is being walked down the aisle as an honorary guest. I have no idea how to list her on my wedding program..

For example:

Brides parents

My mom and dads name... but they aren't together.. my mom still carries my dads last name.. lol

How would I list my dads girlfriend??

I can't find any examples online of proper wording.

Please help!

Ok. I would ask your mom if she has a significant other first. Then one one side list your dads girlfriend as his full name then her full name. Then on the other side...depending on if your mom remarried or not list her name and her partners name. So everyone is honored and no feelings are hurt. Trust me i have to do the same thing. And congrats to your big day. I wish you all the best.

Don't know why you would LOL at your mom still using her married name, many women who were married a number of years do, especially if they have kids or use the name professionally.

    I would do

Mrs. Jane Smith, Mother of the Bride

Mr Joe Smith, Father of the Bride, accompanied by Mary Doe.

I'd skip the programs all together, honestly. It's completely not necessary.

And for the record? Milton is the name of my ex husband, deceased ex husband. I use it because it's easier and it's professional.

Karen nailed it if you do one, but seriously, you don't need them.

Also curious why it's an "lol" that your Mom kept your Dad's last name...

I'd skip programs. Save the money and put it toward something that guests actually care about.

    Curiosity killed the cat..

For the record... the "lol" my mother carrying my fathers name is because it makes it more complicated for people to understand that they're not married without the proper wording. By no means is it that I was laughing at my mothers decision to keep my fathers name. Only that the little details make it more complicated for me in my mind. I'm so close to the wedding that every detail is coming out. And I'm stressed out.

Curiosity killed the cat? What an odd thing to say.

    Not odd at all IMO.

"being inquisitive about other people's affairs may get you into trouble."

I meant that it was an odd thing to say to someone on the internet that answered your question. That you posted. To an Internet forum.

I'm not going to go back and forth with a stranger on an Internet forum! Have a great day!

By putting your parents names on separate lines, with no and, you make it perfectly clear they are not married.
