Steaming/dry cleaning your dress

HISballerina, on April 16, 2014 at 9:51 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

How far in advance do you take your dress to be pressed/steamed/cleaned before the pictures? And should you do it again before the big day? I have a satin ball gown if that makes a difference.

    Hey dress twin!!!

I am guessing you are having bridal portraits before the wedding?

Due to of the size of the skirt you can't keep it in a garment bag or anything after it is pressed, so I would say do it the day before and leave it out of the bag over night. After your portraits put it back in the bag and do the same thing before the wedding.

You think it'll only take a day? That'd be awesome! Who's the designer of you dress? I have the Allure 9003 Smiley smile

Yep we have the same dress Smiley smile

As far as timing I mean have it picked up the day before. Drop it off whenever you have to to be able to pick it up the day before.

I've been worried about how creased my dress is going to get. It's being steamed by the seamstress and I'll pick it up in May. It's then going to be in a dress bag until the big day - I've just ordered one that flares a bit at the bottom to stop it getting too crushed (previously it was in two suit bags taped together to make one long enough which was hardly ideal! I still have to get it to the venue in the back of my car with a load of other stuff though… I'm just hoping I can steam it a bit in the hotel bathroom!
