Steamer for wedding dress?

MrsC2B, on September 28, 2017 at 6:04 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 8

My dress has satin panel in the front and it gets wrinkled. I am pretty sure that despite steaming and pressing after the final fitting, it will still need some tending to on the day of.

I will be speaking to my seamstress, of course, because she is the best person to advice. But I was curious about you guys' experience. Is there a particular brand of steamer you would recommend? A particular technique? Any no-no's?

TIA!

I had a $20 steamer from walmart for my besties wedding. Worked like a charm. I just suggest going over wrinkles multiple times rather than holding the steamer over a wrinkle for an excessive amout of time or you might get water spots. I never held the steamer in a single spot for more than 3 seconds before I moved on to the next wrinkle then looped back around to the previous one

My Little Steamer is a life saver. Its compact and easy to use (my H uses it on his own). And its like 20 bucks from Bed Bath and Beyond. Its by Joy Mangano. We have two, couldn't recommend more.

I have one of the big professional steamers (FH got it for me for Christmas last year because I can't stand wrinkles haha!) and just steamed by dress and veil last night with no problem. Like Amburgerr said, don't hold the steamer in one spot for a long time. I've heard horror stories of tulle melting and water spots, but if you get a good steamer and do your research you should be ok. My seamstress recommended steaming mine inside out. I think most of the wrinkles actually fell out from just being in the steamy bathroom with the steamer on (and I've heard of people just taking hot showers with the door mostly closed with the stress hanging on the door-- just make sure you put a towel on the floor so your dress isn't dragging against the wet floor)

I suggest that instead of buying a steamer (if you don't have one) to call the cleaners at your area and check each one price wise. The cost might be cheaper or almost the same as buying a new one (and doing the steaming by yourself).

We have JM's little steamer and a professional Rowenta but I opted having my gown professionally steamed instead.I was nervous of doing it myself since I got a little paranoid of the "what ifs" ( my gown is a 2 layer tulle and the satin lining) plus the fact I hate steaming and ironing Smiley smile Since I'm wearing a non-traditional gown, I only paid $30 for it.

Just make sure it's okay to steam. I found out that I couldn't steam mine (which was my plan) so now I have to take it to cleaners to get pressed and then put down a sheet and leave it in the car OUT of the bag.
