Std/invites Timeline?

Marissa, on November 6, 2019 at 9:03 AM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hey all, I was curious about when you're sending out STD/invites and what is considered too early. My wedding is about 8 months away. But I recently got a coupon for 50% off on Shutterfly which expires at the end of this year (which is next month - gasp!) and I want to use it in time. We already have our details nailed down and everything reserved so, in theory, I could order the items now and send them later. I've seen people send STDs out super early (meaning earlier that I personally would've) which is earlier than "suggested" on the planning checklist. When did/are you sending yours?

Save the dates are generally sent 6-8 months before the wedding. Invites are generally sent 6-8 weeks before the wedding. We ended up sending our save the dates 4 months before the wedding because we had to move our date up after we ordered them, otherwise they would've been sent out at the 6 month mark. Our invites will go out 7 weeks before the wedding so they can go out right after the holidays.

I would go ahead and order and send them later for the discount. Typically STDs go out 6 months ahead, unless its a destination wedding or lots of people are travelling, then you can send about 8 months ahead. Typically invites go out 2-3 months ahead. Since you have the holidays coming up, I might wait until January to send STDs

I think you could definitely get them now. This is about the time they usually go out. Or, if you want to wait, you could get the STDs with the sale and send them out later. That’s what we did. Ours were 50% off, so we got 60 for $30. We bought them in August and will be sending them out this month after another family wedding. I would also be careful not to send them out too close to Christmas since people tend to lose their Christmas cards and stuff!

We sent ours 11 months in advance because it was a Friday wedding in the summer. Personally I would send yours out ASAP. By 6 months in advance guests might have already made other plans that would conflict with your wedding date.

I did 6 months out for STDs. Which is typical for a local wedding. Wedding invites I sent out 7 weeks ahead of when I needed them back.

We sent ours at the beginning of this month for our September 2020 wedding, so about 10 months in advance. 2/3 of our guest list will be coming from out of state though. I would send them now unless literally everyone on your guest list is local.

We get married on November 27th, 2020 which is the day after Thanksgiving. We are sending our save the date out so they arrive to our guests before Thanksgiving. Our thought in doing this is because most families make their Thanksgiving plans for the next year during the current Thanksgiving; plus since there's typically a surge in airline tickets during the holiday season, we want to give ample time for our guests to plan and book ahead of time.

We are sending out wedding invitations 2.5 months before our wedding because we need final numbers 1 month before our wedding date. That gives guests 1.5 months to RSVP and time for me to remind guests to RSVP if needed.

STD's typically go out 6-8 months before your wedding. We sent ours out 6 months before. Invitations typically go out 6-8 weeks. We sent ours about 6 weeks. We ordered our invitations about 2 months before we actually sent them because of a major sale that was going on. So you can absolutely do that. But by the time you create your STD, order them, and receive them, it will be about time to send them out!

Our wedding date is June 6, 2020 and we just purchased our invitations that we will be mailing out the first week of Feb. FMIL is sending her side of invites starting January.

But for our save the dates I plan on mailing them two weeks into December as holiday cards.

We sent our save the dates out 10 months in advance since we had so many out of state guests.
