std Dilemma Alert

Samantha, on August 28, 2019 at 8:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 18
I’m torn between including the wedding website on the STD. I planned to include the wedding website on the formal invitation which would be sent about 4 months prior to the wedding. If they already have the Wedding website, they can access all the needed information so I would feel like what was the point in sending the formal invitation? What have others felt were pros and cons to including the wedding website on the STD?

I have not sent a save the date yet but I plan to include a wedding website. My stance is give everyone as much information as early as possible( I am a destination wedding so this is even more true) I will also be sending a formal invite because 1. I think they are awesome to receive. 2. Some people will throw the save the date away and then all the info is gone. 3. Some ( maybe grandparents) will not think to go to the website.

Would some people be confused they got a save the date but never the invite?

Good point about those who wouldn’t go on the website! I planned to sent both to everyone actually. Thank you!

We put our wedding website on our save the date so people could start making travel arrangements. The save the date doesn’t actually invite someone or require a response so it’s still necessary to send an invite.

Yes I still plan to send the invite officially I’m just wondering about including the website on the STD since I would be including it on the official invite as well.

I think it depends on where you are in the planning process. I didn’t include it on our save the date because we still had a good amount we wanted to add, like transportation details, registry, hotel blocks, meal choices, etc. I wanted to sent it out on our actual invite when we’d have all of the big details people would want to know nailed down.

Some of my thoughts exactly that we might not have all the information too!

We included it because almost our entire guest list had to travel to our wedding. People began to book flights and hotels after receiving the save the date. As a guest I always prefer to have the wedding website with the save the date because I’m usually traveling for weddings.

We only included the website on the invitations. We wanted to take our time building it and making sure it was what we wanted before it was published.

We didnt put the website on the save the date. I didnt have the hotel block setup, my registry all done and other details. I felt it would cause more questions than anything and didn't want to deal with it! If you have a good amount of out of town guests you can send the invites a little earlier than they normally say to do?

I actually did the opposite. I put the wedding website on the save the dates, but not on the invitation. With the invitation, I did have an insert card with info for the hotel block though. I felt like the invite looked more formal without a web link on it, and I made sure the website was good to go by the time I sent out the save the dates for people to access hotel/registry info.

We put our website on our STD, not our invitations, so people could go ahead and make travel arrangements. To me, knowing wedding info has nothing to do with receiving a formal invite. You don’t RSVP to a STD. So regardless of how much info they receive from your STD or wedding website, they will still need an invitation with information and a way to RSVP.

I'm including the website in the formal invitations. Not everyone has fb nor do I have everyone's email address so it's best to send invites. But I love I can get rsvps right away, my out of town guests can book their hotel rooms or flights, and they can look at our wedding registry.

I made sure all my information was ready to go on the wedding website when I sent STDs. This is helpful for those who need to arrange travel/hotel. 6 months out is a fine time for people to start thinking about that rather than closer to the wedding when invites go out!

I would for sure include it on the save the date, it helps the guests get more information that isn't on the invite.

I put our wedding website on our save the dates. We are having a holiday weekend wedding and there are a few other family weddings next year. I want everyone to have as much information as soon as possible.

Plus you can put your registry on your wedding website, so if they have the website before invites go out that might be helpful. Same with accommodations, some might feel more comfortable booking their hotel sooner than 2 months advance.

I ended up deciding to put our website on the save the dates because we are doing a destination wedding and have some folks coming from out of town. It helps to have hotels, airports etc. listed for those not familiar with the area. I double checked this with my wedding planner/coordinator and she said even though the website will only have travel information, our story, and our engagements pics, that she thinks it will be useful to guests. You can always update the website as you go - for ex. if you don't have your day of or rehearsal dinner schedule locked in yet. We're planning on sending a separate card with the formal invitation to remind people we have a website; I was thinking of something like 'visit our website for updates' or something along those lines.
