Std- digital or mail?

Mary, on August 26, 2019 at 10:11 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
I'm wondering if people think digitally emailing people a nice save the date email would be acceptable or more of a nay? Still figuring out if I can get away with emailing it since mailing can get costly.

Mailing definitely does get costly! We wanted to mail ours that way everyone could hang it up on their fridge!

I say nay just because it doesn't serve as a great reminder. I always keep save the dates on the fridge, so I always remember them. If I get an email, I'll open it, look at it, and forget it. You can skip save the dates if you want, or just send them to out of town guests. The invitation is necessary, but save the dates are optional. If you do want paper/magnet save the dates, Ann's Bridal Bargains is a cheap website with good quality (I got my invites from there).

Since save the dates aren’t a necessity, I think email is fine. I would definitely do physical invitations though.

I agree with PP. I don't see any issue with digital Save the Dates. That stuff adds up!

I think digital STDs are fine, though not quite as nice or traditional. If you want to cut costs on physical ones, you can always do postcards - they're cheaper, don't need envelopes, and the postage is less.

I agree that an email might get lost but then again people can put a paper save the date on the fridge and never look at it. Since Labor Day is coming up maybe Vistaprint will have some good deals? That's where I ordered mine on black friday and I got 70 for like $20 so it was a good deal to me! STD's and invites weren't a priority for me since they get tossed in the trash so I got a design I liked but only spent about $20 for each set - do you can definitely do it on the cheaper side!

My concern would be older guests (I’m thinking especially my grandpa) who do not have email. Also, is it a site that sends them or they come from your email address? My gmail sorts things from non-contacts. It might end up in the promotions folder (or worse, spam) and I’d never see it. These things may not be a big deal, because STDs are not necessary.

We are planning on emailing STDs. I don't know where that falls with the etiquette police but it works for our budget. Good luck!

I totally think it's fine to email a save the date. I'd recommend mailing physical invitations, however.
