Starting to have covid rescheduling discussion

Emily, on September 22, 2020 at 4:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
Unfortunately, today my fiancé and I started to have the conversation about rescheduling our May 2021 wedding 😭. I’m devastated. We are starting to have the conversation bc NY still only allows weddings up to 50 people with no dancing. Also, most of the guest are coming from the UK/Ireland and they’re in lockdown. One of my bridesmaid is coming from the UK. We’ve been together nearly 7 years and we don’t want to settle with our wedding. We’ll still get married on our date, but possibly push the reception to May 2022. Have any other spring 2021 weddings think about rescheduling to 2022? We want to keep everyone safe and celebrate to the full extent but i still feel so disappointed.

I am genuinely confused because I just attended a wedding in Ny over the weekend with well over 50 people AND dancing. Is that still not allowed?

Omg! No it’s not! Was the wedding upstate? Maybe it’s different, but I live in the NYC and we don’t even have indoor dining!

Yeahhhh had a feeling there was something fishy because mine was supposed to be in NY a couple months ago and it was still not allowed. It was not in NYC though but I thought the rules applied for the whole state. But things could be so vastly different by May, maybe can you wait it out until like January??

My big wedding is March 27, 2021 and there hasn’t been any talk on rescheduling yet. We think it’s too early and will decide December/January

I'm so sorry that you're going through this!! I postponed my July 2020 wedding to July 2022, and it was definitely a difficult conversation for both my fiance and I, and a very hard decision to accept. It's disappointing for sure, but it sounds like you're doing the right thing by considering your guests and where they're coming from, and I totally get not wanting to settle for anything less than what you want. The upside to postponing is that you would get to celebrate twice - once on your original date, and then again the following year!

Some places seem to be letting it slide but my venue will not allow it, which i can 100% appreciate. I reached out to our venue for timeline if we have to reschedule. In our contract it says 60 days but I am not sure if they need more time then that. We booked in January before this all happened. I hope you get to have your special day ❤️

I agree, it really does seem like it depends on how the individual venue is handling it. And you too! ☺️☺️

Summer 2021 NYC bride here and my fiancé and I also just had the conversation of postponing to Summer 2022. We have also been together for a long time and were looking forward to a large celebration and all of the pre-wedding activities. We really want a wedding with dancing and mingling and without masks or the health risk. As hard as it is to imagine, I feel like “normal” large wedding celebrations will not be possible next year. Even if the restrictions are lifted, we are both very risk averse and have been taking this very seriously. My fiancé is an RN who went through hell in April/May and we lost a close family friend to Covid. This summer, I found myself anxious about the wedding every single day—just thinking about whether it’ll happen or not next year and when we can feel comfortable planning all of the fun activities. For me, it’s not worth waiting to postpone if we are not going to want to compromise any of our wedding details or be able to enjoy the full wedding experience and planning. But I was also very sad when we first started talking about it and still get sad knowing that we’ll have to wait so much longer. We booked our venue in early February so we are now awaiting their response regarding postponement before we reach out to other vendors. Fingers crossed! Best wishes!

My May 2020 destination wedding was postponed to May 2021 and I'm a little nervous too. We had about 75 people planning to attend. I don't know how comfortable our guests would be to attend next year. I think if we have to cancel again, we will cut our losses and get married anyway whether it's a small ceremony or a courthouse wedding. All our vendors are booked and my dress has been altered so it would be a huge bummer but we are waiting until January to start worrying about it.

I'm in Philadelphia and we currently have a postponed wedding set for May 15, 2021 (postponed from May 16, 2020). Yesterday was the first day we seriously started discussing postponing the large celebration again until May 2022, and I reached out to our venue to see our options. With all the news in the past week of a vaccine timeline, it doesn't seem like it will be readily available to the public until middle of 2021, at the earliest. We were engaged in December 2018 so the entire wedding's been planned already and deposits/payments are down so it's just a matter of when. We're thinking that we really don't want to have a socially distanced or smaller wedding when we've already planned for a larger one (not huge, maybe 100 people). The truth is that you can't really socially distance at what we think of as a traditional wedding. It's like a big reunion and people are eating and drinking (not wearing masks when doing so).

Though, we are already planning a courthouse elopement this Christmas and are also not planning on starting a family any time soon, so that makes it less of a big deal for us to wait as well. I feel like moving it to 2022 will be a big disappointment and I'm sad about it, but it will also be a relief.

I actually just heard back from our venue! They are confident with having their 2021 weddings. We are one the first weddings of 2021 because they’re a ski resort and start their wedding season in May. They’re not considering moving dates till after the winter/ski season. They do however have our date available for 2022 which is peace of mind. Currently we have 175 save the dates that were sent in April. Hoping you get to have your special day ❤️❤️

My Fiancé and I have been together almost 8 and a half years now. We postponed our wedding from May to October now. We decided to move our wedding to my in-laws backyard with just immediate family and we are hoping we can have a celebration in the future of some sort or a vow renewal depending on what the future holds. It is so difficult to not feel screwed out of having our big day, but you can still make it special with immediate family if that is something you would consider!
