Our 'standing ceremonies" are literally 10 minutes long. They are limited to two carfulls of people, we all get there at once, walk to the ceremony site and 10 minutes later we're done. I tell my elopement couples (that's the only situation where we would do this) that the entire process is 10 minutes from end to end, and then they will be leaving for lunch or whatever. That is manageable. Anything beyond that is not.

".....whoever is quick enough to get them."

Lord Jesus. I picture poor grandma getting knocked down as people run to grab a chair.

God, people are so damn stupid.

We are having a 10-15 minute ceremony where some guests will be standing (Central Park has benches and some seating but does not allow chairs). We are making sure that people who cannot stand for 15 minutes get the priority seats, and are working with our officiant to make sure that our ceremony is super short and sweet.

But guys, there's a cute poem:

"Ceremony short and sweet, bring your own seat!"

    So it's fine!

Incredible!!! This reminds me of a wedding I went to that was supposed to be outside but because it had rained a lot, there was too much mud where the outdoor ceremony was supposed to be. The rain plan was that we were inside, in this community center library.... there were chairs but not enough for everyone. I was standing for over an hour and it was horrible. Then the "dinner" was basically Costco appetizers and paper plates/plastic forks. I've been to nicer picnics ... there also wasn't enough food for everyone. :-/

One of the venues we toured was a boat club and there was an option to do the ceremony on the dock or inside. Except there's a weight limit for the dock, so the venue director told us that not everyone was allowed to set. As soon as FH and I got into the car after the tour, we turned to each other and said, "There is no way we're doing the ceremony on the dock. We're not making any guests stand."

A.L. - so is everyone arriving to Central Park at the same time and walking to the ceremony location all at once? Because most guests arrive early so they will end up standing or trying to find some bench.

My fiance wasn't sure if he wanted to rent chairs for EVERYONE, only like for half. I nearly died at the thought. Found cheap ass chairs to rent and he came to. I cannot believe it.

Eww. If I showed up I might leave and come back for the reception, but I'm guessing it probably wouldn't be open bar! Lol

@Mrs.SeippToBe, seriously! I am horrified by some of the things brides in FB groups think are OK. And the worst part is that others are supportive of this mess.

I went to one of these weddings. All the chairs were for family and the rest of us had to stand. No warning beforehand. It was on a boat, so maybe there was a weight limit thing. Still. Not pleased about it. There were far too many guests for it being on a boat.

My venue offered a standing room only area as their cheaper ceremony option. I was so confused, who would want that? For that matter, who would pay to use a piece of grass that they can't even put chairs on? So weird.

I've attended one wedding that was standing except for the parents and grandparents. No one knew before hand so we all dressed up to learn when we got there that we had to hike down to the lake and then stand there for about 45 minutes because they started late. Talk about a group of pissed off people!

I low key hope that wedding turns into an unofficial "who can bring the coolest chair contest". Picturing a sea of chairs like the one @JJ posted
