Standing at a ceremony? Tacky?

Tiggopotomus, on March 14, 2011 at 2:54 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

I don't have enough space for chairs at my ceremony venue! Is it tacky that people will have to stand? Should have measured a long time ago!

I'd certainly have chairs for older guests who can't stand. It also depends on the number of guests you are having.

I think a few people standing in the back is okay- but asking everyone to stand- yeah, find a way to have them seated!

Oh! I have 60 chairs... and then 21 of us wont need to sit because we're IN the wedding but then that leaves 19

IS your venue a church, hall, or what? Carpeted or hard flooring?

And you having kids there? If so, maybe the kids can sit on the floor in the front row (if it's carpeted, not hard floors)...

I'm thinking- but don't get your hopes up!

19 is okay, when I first saw the title, I was thinking more along the lines of everyone standing for the whole ceremony. I did that for my civil ceremony, it was 40 guests ot so and they just stood around us on the mountainside over looking the city. It worked nicely for ours and we kept the ceremony short and sweet. Smiley smile

Just make sure that those guests who need to be seated (elderly, bad back/leg/etc) have a seat reserved for them. Smiley smile

Since you're having kids- try to find a black/white printed comforter. Have a seamstress (or friend who can sew) cut it in half lengthwise to make long blankets. Put them on the front row, and VOILA- the kids can park there little butts on the ground, right in front of all the action!

Excuse my sloppy picture making... but can chairs go on the blue arrow?

I don't know that I would put the kids in the front, I'd worry about them getting under foot or distracting everyone from the bride and groom. But on the side? How about bench seats along the back and side walls?

Looking at the layout of the venue- I think 19 people standing would work okay. Some of the smaller kids can share chairs or sit on their parents laps. A couple chairs in the parking area would work as well, but not too many of them.

I'd also see about putting the chairs on an angle, and putting a few in the rocky area. At an angle, they might work.
