Stamps- One ounce or two!?

OG Kathryn, on October 9, 2015 at 9:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Not sure if I can get any help on this. But I wanted to order all the stamps I need now for the following:

STD

Invitations

RSVP Card

Thank you Cards

For anyone that had a standard invitation with matting and an inclosure card with envelope. Was a one ounce stamp enough? or did the invitaitons need a 2 ounce stamp?? I wanted them all to match, which is why I wanted to order all at once.

My invite was a flat with a belly band, RSVP card, website card, and return envelope. Only needed one stamp.

Also remember stamps for thank you cards for the bridal shower if you are having one and stamps for thank you cards for vendors if you plan on sending those as well.

Mind was a pocket card, invitation, two enclosure cards, and an RSVP envelope, and needed 2oz. Really you should take your invite to the post office to get it weighed before buying stamps. I know you want them all to match, but I promise no one will notice! I used bald eagle stamps on some of my RSVP cards because I ran out...I thought it looked dumb but have you ever noticed a stamp on a card you got? I think not.

Personally, I wouldn't. I would wait until you have your STD's and/or your invitations, take them all to the post office, have them weight each individually, and they will tell you the proper amount, and then you can order accordingly. Just a week or 2 before I sent out my STD's the post office raised the stamp prices by 1 or 2 cents. You never know when they will decide to do that again. In the end, I had 0 issues with people not getting their STD's or their invitations. It went so smoothly. I attribute it to my compulsive perfectionism with dealing with the USPS.

No bridal shower so I am good there. But thanks for reminder on vendor thank yous. They arent "SUPER" weddingy ( I know not a word). So I will order extras just in case and could use them for other things down the road.

OK Ill wait for the Invitations. Ill get the ones I want for the STDs, RSVPS, and thank yous. Those are just a plain piece (picture above). I can't see it being more than 1 ounce. And inclosure card is small.

@JP I used American flag stamps on my STDs and my aunt called me up telling me I had to go online to buy wedding stamps. She was the only one who noticed. But...she is a mail carrier so I let her slide lol. And bought wedding stamps for the invitations. Haha

I sell and ship for a living and you would be surprised how much one ounce is. I could not imagine and invite being more than .5 ounce. Plus if its less than 1.5 ounces the post office wont care.

It's not just the weight, it's the thickness too. Definitely better safe than sorry to just wait.

For what it's worth, my invites included one flat card, RSVP card with envelop, and hotel card and I used standard postage. But no matter what you think, I recommend taking a complete invite to the post office before buying stamps.
