Stamps for invites/rsvp

jill, on June 20, 2017 at 3:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

I'm wondering if there's a "cheap" or "low budget" way to buy stamps in bulk? I'm of course putting stamps on the invite I mail, as well as the return RSVP card (so guests do not have to provide a stamp). If I did the math right I'm looking at like $90 for just stamps!! Is this something I can do "cheaper" or do I have to suck it up and spend $90 on stamps? Haha wedding planning is making me crazy!

You can save some postage if you opt for postcard RSVPs. This lets you use the postcard stamps which are about 20¢ less each.

You can also hand deliver to all your local peeps.

    There is no discount postage.

I've never seen stamps in bulk cheaper. I could be wrong tho. Postage is expensive.

I don't think you can get a discount on stamps unless maybe you work for the postal service.

Even at Costco, when I bought in bulk (200), there was no discount

I believe Costco might give a slight discount if you are a member.

ETA: Saw QueSeraSera's comment --- never mind.

Think about it this way, 49 cents is nothing compared to the service that the USPS actually provides (delivering a piece of mail within a few days from anywhere in the US to anywhere else in the US).

I'm like constantly shocked that the Postal Service even manages to stay afloat

Actually - presorted bulk mail receives reduced postage rates, but there is a minimum of 200 pieces and a ton of requirements. (This is meant for business mail.)

Did you go to the post office and have your invitation weighed? Postage isn't cheap, especially if your invitation is heavier than "standard" postage. I think I ended up needing the 70cent stamp, which was about $80 for the invitation and RSVP card. I think you just need to bite the bullet lol.

Stamps are a government thing so they are priced the same every where. Maybe hand Deliver some of the rsvp / invitations. You do have to make sure you have enough stamps for the guest to mail you back the rsvps however. They shouldn't be buying those

@lindsey I fully plan on buying stamps for the guests to mail back rsvps. I wouldnt anticipate providing one for someone else's wedding so I wont expect my guests to provide them either. Would it be ok to hand deliver? I work for a small preschool and am inviting my coworkers. Can I just give the envelopes to them directly?

We're doing online RSVPs and it's saving us a good bit. Also you can get stamps on Amazon that are more wedding-ish rather than the basic ones they have at the post office but aren't as expensive as the personalized ones. We got cool ones with leaves since we are doing a lot of greenery.

You can buy unused stamps, including Forever stamps, on Ebay.

You can also find discounts on Ebates. Check the USA site.

On Ebates.ca you get 5% at Canada Post and 2% on Ebay.

We hand-delivered STDs secretly to some of our coworkers, friends, and local family members. We'll be doing the same with the invitations.
